Cup /Drink Holders

I just recently bought a Speedster, and have been trying to juggle a cup of coffee, shift, steer and talk on the phone(lucky I don't smoke). Any suggestins or ideas on drink holders for Speedster?

Barry - have you seen the water bottle cages on a bicycle? I've seen a couple of speedstahs now with one of those strategically mounted to hold drinks.

Alot of hot-rods have some nice billet stuff going on too. More than the $2 water bottle cage, but very cool looking.

I have seen some wire basket kind of cup holder things made for Beetles that fit over the tunnel.

Get a ghetto cup holder. I saw it on the Samba. A roll of duct tape on the passenger side floor which is a easy reach for the driver. Starbucks cups, water bottles etc. That's what I use.

Terry, those are nice as they fold flat and out of the way when not in use. And they're cheap. I had four of them in my Westy, two up front on the shifter housing(auto trans, tall plastic housing) and two in the back either side of the bench seat.

On my Spyder, a foam cup wedges between the seat and the bulkhead near the shifter, or there's a human cupholder: Jen!

Thank you all for your suggestions. Terry's suggestions looks the best, had the same set-up on my boat and they worked great. I have ordered a couple. Once again I will be able to drive, drink, shift, steer, try to look cool, and talk on the phone! Muti-tasking to the 5th power!

How about this cup holder idea? Holds 2 drinks and folds flush.

What's wrong with a good old fashioned six pack of glass bottles in a cardboard carrier? If your brand doesn't come with twist-of caps, you may have to mount a bottle opener under the dash. Or were you talking coffee or sumthin?

How many of you remember (from the 60's) ......."tain-ers?"


Quart sized wax coated paper cups with a hefty lid so that we could buy $1.50 draft beers to go.
These tended to created much interior flooding when the driver took a corner too hard or as a friend did, roll his car with 5 people in it and about 25 of these quarts stuffed into a few cardboard cartons. ~Alan

Alan - that roll-over would be the same story out here in SoCal, but with the addition of 10-15 little containers of Taco Bell hot sauce!! :-)

That looks like a Henry Reisner special. The tunnel is almost definitely an IM. Looks like it requires cutting into the tunnel for the cup holder to retract.

Some streetrod vendors sell them, I've seen them at the meets but haven't been able to find one on the 'net. Believe they run close to $100 each - wish they were cheaper.

Check your local Harley big bike shop they are used a lot on big cruiser touring motorcycles

I like those IM special cupholders but for 130 plus? For that much money it should make expresso or something.

$3.95 home depot duct tape holds your drink comes in other colors and is dual function (repairs). Go Ghetto.

Thanks for the straight skinny on these. They are really cool. The two-holer is very neat. Don't know if it's $130.00 worth of neat, but maybe. And I already have a roll of blue tape that I carry with, so I guess I have a cup holder after all.

A few years ago my wife found a couple of holders that were actually a bean bag with a plastic cup holder sewn in the center. The bags stayed flat on the bottom and kept the cup from spilling. Haven't seen these on sale anywhere since.

I found cup holders advertised in Street Rodder magazine. Paid about $100. Henry at IM install them when car was being built. Machined quality. Very functional.

Ditto on the diamond-plate Hoopty cup holders. Were he in town, I am certain Cory could produce these by the dozen, should there be a demand.

I am leaning hard toward the hide-away ones -- they really do look cool and would function perfectly.

I just ordered one of the basket type. I will probably only put it in the car on long drives.

Of course, I have to finish my Speedster first. I wish it wasn't so cold in my Michigan garage.

Maybe it's just me, but 29 responses to a thread about cup holders reminds me way too much of the forum my wife uses for her PT Cruiser. In fact, I do believe the PT folk have a dedicated forum just for "cup holders". I shall decline to post their web address here.

The amount of interest in this thread is an indication of how cold it is for many folks, and thus how bored they are.

On the other hand, what ever happened to those flea market bean bag cup holders? I wish I could put my hands of one of those.

In one of my (very) past lives I used to know how to program multi-turret CNC machines (they're pretty simple to program).

Programming a machine to make the components of those billet cup holders would take about 30 minutes and it would turn them out forever in about 10 - 15 minutes flat, including machine set-up. The T-10 Aluminum material would cost $20 bucks, max. What's that tell you??

I cranked out my windshield rear view mirror mount from T-10 on a Heald CNC machine in about 10 minutes for less than $10 bucks (it's a pretty simple design).

Over $100 for Cupholders?? Come on.......

I don't know how most of you drive your cars but I wouldn't have much coffee left on my cup by the time I got to where I was going.

Yeah Mickey, it's more fun to drive to the coffee shop, walk in order and shoot the sh_t for a few minutes and then drive off into the sunset.

I don't know where Gordon gets the "below zero" stuff, but it IS supposed to get down to a near-record 16 tomorrow morning. That's only 2 degrees above the lowest temp seen here for decades. People are gonna freak out, 'cuz thney're just not used to it. Uninsulated pipes will burst, and plumbers will be making lots of money this weekend.

four below in the Poconos last night at 9:30 pm. Check boat shops for cup holders. I had a wire cage style that I hung in the foot well and it would swing as needed.
