Found these in the JC Whitney VW specialty catalog. They are on page 17 of catalog. The red one comes in vinyl or velour, and is in over 18 colors. It is $39.99 for the vinyl, $49.99 for the velour.

The black one is ABS plastic, and is $26.99. I bought this one, primed it, then painted it to match my interior.

Both are on www.jcw.com/vw. Go to interior accessories, then consoles. They fit the hump perfectly if your speedster was built on a VW pan/frame.

Cheers!

Joe..It appears I could use one of these. Came across this kid w/rice burner & tomato can muffler who was showing off last night. Decided to show him how REAL cars with REAL loud exhaust run - ended up wearing the coffee I was supporting between my legs. Didn't realize I had that much leap in lower gears. What's a mother to do??

Are the Whitney units sturdy? Have considered them (or similar) but was concerned they may be only a few mils thick.
I bought the $26.99. Pretty thick ABS. It comes with plastic nubs that dig into the carpet . . . but I put Velcro inside, and mated it to Velcro on the hump. I only have a 1776 engine . . . those with bigger engine ballz should probably Velcro their cups in the cupholders as well!
Joe... Thanks! Think I see one in my future.

Greg... Thinking about retaining Car Talks esteemed law firm of Dewey Cheetum and Howe, should be right down their 'alley'. Also must remember that I am 62, with a 20 something year old resident in here, and I really don't have to show them how real cars and real drivers operate...but sometimes....well we need to advance their formal education ;).
