Go ahead, it's your car. I am also getting tired of the cold can/bottle between my thighs. Anyone ever put one of those consuls in from Empi or the like? I would think they would fit. I was looking for the kind that had the weighted flaps that went over the tunnel. Turns out the gobernut outlawed them. Guess they tipped over when somebody flipped their car, duh , Bruce
I bought one of those can holders that attach to your ball cap. Then, you have a plastic tube running down to your mouth. When you want a drink...just suck. Mine was originally made to carry two cans, but I modified it to hold six, for long trips....and all of those six pop cans around my head keep me cool on hot days (plus, I think I look cool with this set-up too). I'm thinking of attaching another tube, so I can dump used fluids (you know what I mean). Maybe a small drain hole in the floor? That way I could drive all day long!

There are cupholders that are like a bean bag with a cup holder in the middle. The bean bag holds the cup upright and sits a little flat so it doesn't roll on the floor. Nice thing is they are not permanent and can be removed or stowed when not in use. They would only hold the small cups, not the "big culp" type. Unfortunately, I can't recall where we purchased them a couple of years ago but you might be able to find them.
I use a couple of different cup holders in my Speedster. Each cost about $2.00 and look it. Of course there is some modification involved. You must tape or screw a "spacer", I used a piece of 1/4" oak I had laying around, so that the cup holder stays vertical when weighted with that can of your favorite beverage. They also hold cups. If you do not have windows on your speedster you could probably use a bolt to "pin" the holders to your front side curtain receiver. When I drive alone, I use the passenger side door to cup holder, my steering wheel slightly interfers with using the drivers door to hold the cup unless I am on a fairly straight road.

Dale, I think most coffee shops sell those kinds of holders don't they? I have a few that I use while hunting. Never thought about using them in the Roadster.

Joe, you are talking about the 'gimble' style cup holder aren't you? I like those as they don't spill when you go around corners hard. Where on the door do you mount it so it can swing and not be in the way?

I went to the Golden State Nationals in Sacramento over the weekend, an NSRA street rod meet (I'm visiting the west coast and couldn't find any Speedster events happening!). These meets sometimes yield some innovative custom items. Saw the coolest cupholders. When closed you only see a sliver of shiny billet aluminum about 1/2 inch wide by about four inches high. Press on the bottom and a piece flips down, a ring slides towards you, flip the ring left or right and you have a sturdy billet ring to hold your cup. Very neat and compact, almost unnoticable when closed. I would have bought two on-the-spot but they were $90 each - ouch! Didn't get the manufacturers name but they will sell alot of them if they can get the price down. Has anybody seen these or know who makes/sells them at a better price?
This may seem too simple but if you can use the "old fashioned" inverted beverage mugs (larger on the bottom than the top) which originally were meant to fit on dashboards or wherever, then attach some velcro loop material to the bottom. These fit neatly and securely to the carpet on the natural shelf we step over when entering the speedster. On our IM pan car the ledge is wide enough to stash the mug right beside the seat for exit and entry, then move it forward for easier reach while driving. No holes to drill, no sand bags and no billit! Our 2800 mile trip through the Canadian Rockies this summer netted nary a drop on the floor, but that hole in my lower lip occasionally soiled a couple of t-shirts.
Happy motoring!
