My IM has 185/65R15s on 15 x 5.5" chrome repop Mangels. They are splayed out at the bottom in the rear farther than I like for clearance. I know there have been a lot of posts re: tire size, etc... I'm hoping to find anyone that does 4-lug Mangels with custom backspacing. Google hasn't helped much. Any thoughts? I'm pulling one of the tires this weekend and measure what I have now as I'm not sure. Fronts clear fine, but I think if I can pick up 3/8 inch or so in backspacing on the rears it will make a difference. As a last measure, I may go to 175 tires. The new Yokohama AVID ENVIgors have good reviews and come in 175s. I really want to keep the look I have now.

You are so right! the 185's fit, but you can't get a credit card between them and the wheel well opening. Of course measurements on an IM and CMC may differ so don't be discouraged :) I've just got far more negative camber than I think I need for handling and want to reduce the appearance of rear-end sag and still have everything fit. Good luck to both of us!
Chuck, I have some 4 lug wheels that Henry makes for IM's with big motors. They are 7" wide with the offset to fit under our cars. Give me a call 561 301 7885 to discuss. I am on east coast time now. I am running 185/65-15 on the stock 5.5 4 lug Mangles with no rubbing issues. My cars sits nice and low in the rear and even with my 240lb bulk in the car no issues with rubbing ever.
Chuck !! Henry can have you a pair made. Figure out what you need by measuring.

I got 2 of the Beck offset mangle rims in a 6 inch made by Henry .

You gain 3/8 clearance on the outside with a Beck 550 Spyder offset rim under the fenders. and 1/4 on the inside.. they WORK Perfect On my car Which is not a wide body. 195/65

I have the 70 through 72 super K frame. It makes it harder, beacause of the trailing arm clearance the 7 inch rims were too wide, and stuck out 5/8 a inch to far. I had to have a narrower rim with less out space..

Plan for $500.oo,, It may be less but that was back in 2001
Honda Jazz (maybe called a Fit there?) or Honda City are 5.5 and Benz are 6 inches wide. Either will take the centre of the 4 bolt VW rim.
Simply set the back space where you wish and weld in the centre.

Having a lathe big enough to swing the wheel is nice to cut out the centres and face the mounting surface when done. 30.00 to do all 4 here in Thailand!!

I fitted 195/65.15 on the 5.5" wheels and have different backspacing front and rear. Mock it up with the centre not yet welded into the rim to set it where needed.
In retrospect I could have gone for the Merc wheels and 205's,
Many shops will cut the centers and re-weld them into any configuration you want.

Another option is to find someone who owns a set of 4 bolt Mangles that came off of a Beck Spyder They had a custom backspace so they wouldn't rub on the rear wheel wells.

Try calling Kevin or Carey at Special Edition (866) 396 - 2325. They may have a set of those rims.
I'll have her back on the road in two weeks. New 2275 is finishing and shipping next week, new transmission is already in hand... This weekend, I installed external oil cooler after welding up a bracket to mount it in the front between the battery box and nose. I also put in new sets of KYB GR2 shocks in the front and Gas-A-Just in the rear. 3/4" swaybar in front finishing up during the week. Will have new 25mm Torsion bar set and rear swaybar installed during the drive train swap. Love to be driving her, but I get just as much fun working on it!
