Does anone know where I can get a set of rear drums that have been drilled and studded for Ford or Chevy 5 lug wheels? Or even a machine shop in the south-east that can drill the stock drums and install studs? If I run adapters, I do not have enough fender clearance. Only about 3/8" to 1/2" too wide. The wheels that I have are uni-lug for Ford or Chevy passenger car, so either one will work.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The VW stock drum has webbing cast into the drum , the heavier areas are where the lug holes are centered on.
To redrill a stock drum, the new holes will be off set of the webbing and not have enough "meat" to support the wheel lug....
I would think a good machine shop would avoid this job due to liability issues, sure you could have someone weld in a shallow backing support nut on the inner side but then you have brake shoe/hardware clearance issues.

Hmmm...I don't remember the webbing issue when I drilled and installed studs in mine. They were drums from CIP1 that were drilled for the 5X130 pattern and then I drilled and installed studs at a 5X110 pattern in between.

I'm planning on pulling my wheels off in the next week or so to get them rebalanced. I can take a look at the drums to refresh my memory and snap a photo.

Jerome,
I'd appreciate that. If the drums that CIP1 sell don't have the web backing, that may be the way to go. Just hate to have to pick up a new set of rims to fix the problem. I was kind of wondering the same thing that Alan was talking about. Seen it down plenty of times though. I saw where someone was selling rear brake drums that were blank with no holes. Can't seem to locate the source now. Anyone seen them advertised anywhere?
