The other day I noticed what sounds like an exhaust leak on the rear starboard side. (right) rear exhaust area.

I jacked up the car, took off rear tires and started it up and went to look. I couldn't find anything obvious. I torques the bolts holding the exhaust on and still have what sounds like a put-putt coming out. It is noticeable when power on and not when decelerating, so it's got to be a leak.

I took it to a mechanic (that's rare) and we hoisted the car up and checked with the engine on. Still unsure. He seems to think that something broke off in the muffler. I have the 4 pipe monza exhuast which was great.

Since I can't find anything obvious I am starting to think.... You think a valve that has come out of whack could sound like an exhaust leak? I have all the power that I had before...

If I can't find anything this weekend I'm going to order new pipes. I need to order from CIP1 since the duties kill the price importing. I asked them as well to find me an equivalent maybe a touch quieter if possible.

Mike, I know you have probably already thought of this, and checked it out. It's remotely possible that a cylinder head is begining to loosen up....Just a thought...

Leon I never thought about that. Great thought! I remember correctly, 8mm is 18ft/lbs and 10mm is 28? I'll check today. Very possible. Thanks, I'll post my find.

Check the exhaust valve clearance while you're in there, too.

Another thing to check isthat the spark plugs are all tight - if one has loosened up it could cause your noise.
