Will /Dave -

I'm planning on going to the 356 Concourse in Dana Point! Dave, C&C would have to be a crazy early start for you (event runs only between 07:00-08:30am on Saturday morning). Leave that for another weekend.

I suggest we (Will, you & me and whoever else is coming from SD) meet for breakfast in San Clemente then head over to Dana Point.

Its an awesome show, definitely worth the trip. Here are some pics I took at a previous Concourse in Dana Point.

Jim and Will,

I'm in. Let me know which day, which ever you think is the best day.

I am a member of the 356 Club. I know the club is not as snooty as 356 Registry. I did join both though. I see they let reps on the grass if they have enough room, seems very enlightened.

Took a afternoon freeway drive for some yogurt and the engine ran sweet after the valve adjust this AM. Stayed cool and came up to 195 degrees max on a 6 mile one way drive.

Also replaced a faulty power outlet (cheap piece of Kragen Sh$$) with a VW lighter and redid the wire connections, need this for my Ipod
Started in on the mangle chrome rims 4 bolt they need a little clean up.

Cheers
Dave

Robert/Will/David/Desi/any other SOCers thinking of attending this show, food for thought;

In the past they have allowed the Replicars to park in the 'Display Only' area (space allowing). Its a $20 fee. Otherwise, its street parking which is VERY limited and especially so on this event day. It would not be unusual to have to park 1/4 mile (or more) away. The past few years I have driven my beater car to the show and parked on the street.

The line-up to get in at 07:00 is VERY long. Let's start discussion as to meeting up and caravaning to this event (time/place)...
Jim said breakfast in San Clemente. Sounds like a plan, either Sat or Sun just say the time and place.
Did a valve adjust this am (practice makes better) and took a speed run down the 5 south to Chula Vista for a cheap tool run to Harbor Freight and it drove way better than yesterday at Balboa Park. If fact it was really fun just to blast down the freeway! Top down of course.

So I am ready for a San Clemente/Dana Point run next weekend. Looking forward to it.

When and Where Jim?

Cheers
Dave
PEOPLE OF EARTH!!!

Saturday July 12th is primarily a checking-in process for the 356 Club & Concourse personnel. They will have a P-car only cruise to a club dinner/meeting.

Sunday July 13th is when the 356 Club will hold their annual Concourse D'Elegance at the Dana Point Marriott. There will be a huge line-up of cars (plus trucks towing trailers) even before the gates open at 07:00am. It will take quite awhile for all the cars to enter the grounds (registration process, staging cars for judging, directing non-participants/display-only to their area, etc.)

Judging begins at 09:00am. My recommendations (1) pass on the crazy early-morning start necessary for us to be there in time for a decent position in the line-up to get in the show (2) meet for breakfast in San Clemente at 08:00 (3) get to the 356 event by 09:00 to watch the judging and wander around ogling the P-car porn on display (4) afterwards the hardcore SOC guys go for a short cruise and disperse.

SUNDAY BREAKFAST MEETING:
A restaurant with easy fwy access is Tommy's Family Restaurant in San Clemente. It's a family diner done in 50's decor. Kinda hokey but quick & easy access with easy parking. Meet at 08:00am Sunday morning July 13th. There are nicer places for breakfast in San Clemente, but with all things considered (easy to find, parking) this is the best bet.

North-bound SOC'ers take the (San Clemente) El Camino Real exit (exit #74, NOT hwy 74), turn LEFT to go back under the 5 Fwy, Tommy's will be on your right just past the fwy off-ramp.

South-bound SOC'ers take the (San Clemente) El Camino Real exit (exit #74), turn RIGHT onto El Camino Real and immediate RIGHT into Tommy's parking lot.

Open for any suggestions...My cell (949) 294-6302

This will be a bitchen way to get in a cruise AND see cool Porsches!

PEOPLE OF EARTH- PHASE TWO!!

IF the 356 Concourse on SUNDAY would be a second choice for you hardcore SoCal SOC'ers who would RATHER hang-out and cruise with your brethren knucklehead SOC'ers, consider this 2nd Option for the weekend;

Blow-off the 356 Concourse on Sunday, and INSTEAD meet SATURDAY morning July 12th for...

(A) Cars & Coffee (I think the cars of the 356 Club will be the Marquee exhibit) then breakfast/canyon/coastline cruise afterwards.

OR

(B) meet in Carslbad for breakfast SATURDAY morning (July 12th) and a kamikaze run up Palomar mountain (S. Grade Rd-S6 and E. Grade Rd-S7 east of Oceanside on Hwy 76).

I could do either...Phone lines are now open...

Robert -

My vote would also be for the Saturday morning gig (C&C and canyon cruise). Mostly for the fact that it would be an excuse for the SOC gang to get together and hang out. OR we could skip the crazy early morning C&C thing and just meet for 08:00am breakfast and cruise afterwards. I have a feeling that more of us SoCal SOC'ers could make the Saturday thing than the 356 Concourse on Sunday.

Count me in for keeping you company on the sidelines Sunday morning as Tamara shreds the Auto-X course in her Cayman!! Its pretty cool to watch all the different cars (and skill levels) tearing around.

Peace - Out!

Will (et al);

For Saturday morning, I was thinking we (whoever shows up) could meet for breakfast at the Knollwood's Restaurant in Irvine where you & I ate after C&C (Sand Canyon/5-Fwy).

A leisurely breakfast (08:00am) then cruise through Santiago/Modjeska/Trabuco Canyons and out through Rancho Santa Margarita to Ortega Hwy to Del Obispo in San Juan Capistrano to drop down onto the coast in Dana Point. An easy 2-hr cruise. From there everyone can either hop on the 5-Fwy or coast to head home (before noon).

...Gabe, Desi, Adrian, Bruce, Mark, etc SoCal SOC'ers?

Mickey - in your honor, we will call this the Mickey Donatello Vicarious Cruise! :-) ...more reason for you to get your a$$ out here one-way-or-another, my brutha!!

I may drop by the 356 Concourse late Sunday morning after the Porsche Auto-X in El Toro, but I will probably be driving my beater car and park wherever I can on the street and wander through the event. Maybe I can run into some other SOC'ers while I'm there.

Peace - Out!

To have that honor bestowed upon me leaves me without words.
Take lots of pics at the C&C and Dana Point of the cars, and throw a few of some hotties in there, just to commemorate things. I'll hang back here on the east coast where it's 90ish degrees (about 120 in the restaurant kitchen) with 90% humidity and wonder to myself why it is that I haven't packed up my family and my speedster and moved west!?
I am real bummed lately, First my engine,then one of my seadoos,and the absolute worse that has me crying all the time ..My puppy died yesterday,only 14 mos old. He was my buddie and I miss him.
I know a run in a Speedster would do me good, maybe I'll put the old moter back in and see you guys this weekend?
Later, Mark
