Danny is bringing the spyder to my friends paint shop. We plan to go out to dinner 6:30 or so in the Chambersburg area....

Danny is getting the Spyder painted???? Did that "OUCH" buff out???

No, Leon. I wish, but there were spider cracks all over the rear clip of the Spyder, besides the two big gashes from the pickup that hit me. It's time to fix it, it was like that for over three years!

Took the windshield off Saturday and moving along on disassembly.

Well, you will feel a LOT better after it is back together again....8>)

Good thing it isn't this Fri. They're calling for maybe up to a foot of snow! Damn!

Well, we got near two feet, somewhere between 50,000-100,000 out of power, most back now. Some will be out until Wednesday, though. I only lost power for 5-6 hours yesterday. My sister is only 1.5 miles away, still out but being powered by my generator, Generac 6500, converted to propane by me.

Getting ready for Friday:
Removed grills, Tenax studs, front turn lights, headlights, fender mirror, Spyder scripts, seats, carpet, shifter, Morse accel cable, gauges, switches. All wires tagged and/or bagged. Removed steering wheel and turn switch.

Installed nutserts/rivnuts for headlights(previously bolt-thru) and rivnuts for license plate. Installed new license light, marked holes that need to be filled from old, damaged, incorrect shape license light(KG copy).

Rest of week: remove gas tank(easy) , then drill lots of little stuff: dash handle, P-scripts, crest, Nurburgring badge. Cut holes and install defrost ducts and front jack points. I'm not going to finish defrost 100%, just cut the holes and fit the duct and upper trim. Hoses to heater plenum come later. Install locating pin for headrest, it rotates about the center and scuffs the rear deck paint.

Last week, I took off some other stuff and took care of a big step. Windshield is off, drilled all rivets for aluminum base strip.

I wanted to get more done, but didn't due to not being able to see in the garage yesterday or operate power tools, generator at my sisters house! Try to be nice, and see what it gets you!

The car will be Subaru pure white, and a nice somewhat muted red, a Nissan color, for the darts. I've got to be different from all you silver Spyder guys. The red will go with the interior red leather, but no way to match it really. Non-metallic, both of them. Just a couple of minor details(pulling the gas tank and attaching the towbar) and it's a go for tomorrow.

That will look great! Have you though about outlining the darts in an accent color like gold, silver, or black?

Sorry I couldn't make the trip - wife said I495/I270 would be a 3hr 1 way trip on a Friday (plus pending weather). When does he come to pick it up for trip back to NY? Now that Spring is here - might be better chance for trip. I see you saved me a seat.

Now that's what I'm talking about! The madness is about so much more than the cars isn't it! I am pretty jealous living here is Dogpatch---it's a beautiful area but no other Speedsters in the entire state!

I am going to the shop this afternoon to lay out the rear fender darts on Danny's speedster.
If all goes as planned, it will be done for the 3/19 - 20
or the weekend of 4/2 - 3...I'll post something as the time gets near. ~Alan

Randy Fortne in St. Thomas Pa. Did Al Shapiro's show look black Street Beast's speedster and many of my builds.
IMHO Randy is one terrific body and paint guy, a one man shop that manages to do a multi dealer's used car repairs as well as restorations and Vette fiberglass work and it's done right the first time. ~Alan

Thanks Kel, but I'm not doing the work, Randy is! Thanks everyone else for the "thumbs up".

I did take it apart and will reassemble, but the REAL work is being done by somebody who knows what they're doing.

Here is another pic I got yesterday. This was shot by Alan through the shop window.

The rest of the car will be done soon, either this weekend or two weeks from now. Then back home and PLENTY of time before Carlisle for some shakedowns. I am not doing any mechanical mods this year, just the paint. So it shouldn't be too bad to put back together.

If it looks that good in person, I think Randy will absolutely get our business next spring.
Danny, she's going to be the belle of the ball this year. Verruh nice.

Cory, I was thinking the same thing. Definatley looking forward to checking out the body work/paint at Carlisle this year. This guy has got to be serious... check out the size of that booth! Clean, nice wet floors. I am impressed. Will have to take a trip up there. Danny, when you go to pick the car up let me know.

Cory, I agree. Ill be at Carlisle Saturday. Not sure if I am heading up Friday or early Sat morning. Throwing a tent and sleeping bag in the back of the speedster. I guess it all depends on the weather as to when i leave, how long I will stay.

I have to be there, Carey is hand delivering a windshiled to me... Again. This is becoming a tradition (thanks Carey). I may be holding a clinic on the correct way to install a windshield, now that I know.

C'mon, Paul. You know you want to do some of the evening partying.

Danny, I know who is actually doing the work, and so my remark was more toward "way to go" to the car-owner guy who is making all the decisions and paying the $$, which would be you, so far as I know. So, by that definition this is something YOU are doing, and doing a fabulous job of it. Are you going to go for one of those clear film coatings to protect all that gorgeous front acerage??

IF YOU DO go for a clear film bra, please let the paint cure for 2-3 months (or bake it overnight) before film application.
