Gerry:

I didn't feel that simple sheet-metal screws into the rubber from behind the dash had a whole lot of strength integrity, so I positioned the rubber bumpers where I wanted them and fastened them with tape, then drilled a couple of through-holes through the dash and through the rubber. After that I embedded a couple of wing nuts into the rubber (cockpit side) so that the tips of the wings were just below the surface (buzz out the slots with a Dremel) and then filled the depression with that great equalizer, silicon caulk, just to smooth off the surface. The nuts will have the threaded part down into the rubber, while the wings will be closer to the surface. Don't use so much silicon that it gets down into the threads, just skim the surface - it'll be covered by vinyl anyway after it sets up.

Now you can fasten the rubber bumpers to the dash with lots of strength, the nuts won't turn and the bumpers are right where you want them. Put the vinyl on them, screw them on and you're done. PLUS, they're easy to remove, if you wish, and you can easily add a material bead
along the top of the bumpers to dress it off.

I'm not a great fan of glue either, I always prefer a good, solid, old fashioned mechanical fixing ! I love the wingnut/silicon idea :)

I also like the look of the dash without the rubber....just half vinyl and a chrome trim.......Decisions decisions......

Thanks for ALL of the input!

on another matter, my hood guy was here today, measuring up. He's away with sizes and my old hood, he'll be roughing it out first, comeback with a first fit, then adjust...Just like getting a new suit made up !

He also went away with my seats/bases/door cards etc....I have to make a decision soon om the color....I'm thinkin RED for the body color, black trim with subtle red stitching.....Whattdya all think?

Cheers

I used wheel well stick-on trim as the gold band along the bottom of my rubber bumpers (I have the Burgundy interior colour).

Believe it or not, I still have the package which dates from before the advent of the internet (so no website!)

I don't have a picture handy, so if you want one I'll snap one tomorrow, but the stuff looks great and has lasted 14 years now!

Oh, and "I have to make a decision soon om the color....I'm thinkin RED for the body color, black trim with subtle red stitching.....Whattdya all think?"

WICKED COOL!!!! Especially if the stitching is like on a baseball glove (1/4" stitch length). How about red piping on the top of the dash rubber and along the tops of the door bumpers, too? Too much or not?
