Looks like VMC extended the leather on their dash. Anyone else notice this? I like it. While it doesn't go all the way like the original cars, it does now lineup nicely with the door leather.

I remember a discussion last year where someone posted their option list on their new VMC and they wanted to have the dash leather go all the way to the edges (https://www.speedsterowners.co...7#692914442704848627). I guess this takes it almost all the way

The only thing i dont like about the new design is the chrome strip, it doesnt seem to flow as nice since it turns. Nevertheless, I would “upgrade “ if VMC offers the service.

I've got no dog in the hunt, but I like the old way better because of what beemerb0y describes. The leather looks great... the trim piece, not so much.

Again, my opinion and a buck fifty should buy a small coffee at McDs, so take it for what it's worth. If you guys like it, then you should rock it.

With of all these comments, now I gotta go out and see how I did my CMC, with the dash tastefully done in Eco-Friendly “Naugahyde” but matching the door-top bolsters.

(Please note, that all of the Naugas willingly gave up their hydes for my car to have a nice interior, making the “Carbon Footprint” roughly the same as a Fiat 500 “Topolino”).

IMG_1798IMG_1797I have an older Beck and this is how it was done.  The other thing that a Beck has is an actual scissoring flat steel and tube top mechanism that’s very close to the original speedster mechanism, not silly hollow tubes as others have. It even uses the original style Porsche latches and clamps to attach at the windshield. See red original speedster to see how it was done originally.

@beemerb0y

I am the poster-child who ordered the extended dash from VMC.  They originally told me it couldn’t be done.  Now I think they are making it standard.

It took a lot of work to get the gauges and knob spacing like that.  Thanks, Greg, for tolerating my requests!  I’m very happy with the result.  I want 356 switches eventually, but I’m happy with the spacing!

On the gauges, the combo and speedo are the “Brazilian” ones as I understand it.  I still have the VDO replica tach in the middle.  Interesting tidbit, my “Brazilian” gauges have green backlighting built in.  The VDO is white.  I actually decided I like the green, so I added green LEDs in the middle, and put matching white LEDs on the combo and speedo.  All three are the same tone green now, and the same brightness.  (photo has red glow from taillights)

Has anyone successfully ordered a new VMC Speedster with this dash design?

Yes beemerb0y,  I believe I was the first to have Greg finish the dash pad all the way to the edge. Greg explained, "that's the way we been doing it for years". I asked him to grant me one wish and that was to make the dash edge aline with the door bolster. He made that happen and for that, I will be eternally gratfull. I see that most of the cars that were built after mine from June of 2023 had the same treatment done to extend the dash pad. More better, more cooler if that is a word.

Pretty sure that's two words
