Giday, Ed. That is a rare engine indeed and made to fit a very small Hummelbird airplane. I remember when I could squeeze into one. It was rather routine back in the '80's to cut a type 1 engine in half crosswise to make up a two cylinder and I've done a couple myself in years gone by. Sun n Fun was a very smooth running three cyl VW. A 1915 jug at the front end on one side and two 1200 cc jugs on the other side. The crank was also heavily counterbalanced internally. We asked him why he built it and he said he just couldn't get to sleep one night....
