This was kind of a strange situation, and I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen?

I was driving home from work, when my speedster began to stutter and eventually stalled out. I pulled over, tried to start the car, and it was just dead.
I was only a few blocks from home and with some hesitation I called a tow truck (Flashes of Gerd's experience...).

Got the car home, check all the battery cables, and everything seemed in order. Pulled the batter from my other car, hooked it up, and the car started right up.
I suppose the battery just shorted out, so I bought a new one. All seems fine now.

Is there any else I should check?

You may have been running on the battery and ran it below the minimum voltage to supply enough power to keep the coil putting out enough.
Now that you have replaced the battery, you may again be running on the battery and soon to have a repeat situation.
Check the voltage from the alt. with the motor running should at 13.8 volts and with the motor off, check the battery voltage, it should be a solid 12 volts. ~Alan
I do have the idiot lights in the gauge cluster, but it did not come on. It lights up temporarily when I switch the ignition on.
I have had dead batteries before in my bug, but once the car was running the car would continue to run.

Thanks for all the help so far I will check it the alternator too.

When I took the battery to NAPA, they said it was no good after they tested it.
