I did a search and other than Jim Wards/Allans diamond plate, Corys loop, and Oscars pedal pad mounted to the wheel well wall, there isn't any pics of dead pedals. Anyone out there got any more pics/ideas for a dead pedal? I had an L-bracket with my old gas pedal cut down bolted through the wheel well wall and took it out when I redid the interior. If I were to reinstall it where it was I'd have to go through the new carpet "map pocket" which would kinda close off the pocket. I'd like something a little more along the line of Ruby's diamond plate pedal but I'm afraid of the clearance issues. I could do a thin one because anything is better than nothing but I figured I'd check here first.

I have several ideas for dead pedals, but they probably won't fit your car. The interior shape of mine is very different and provides an excellent dead pedal area, but it results in dirty carpet. I may get a piece of matching or black vinyl cut to fit, and velcro it on. I doubt that this solution would work for you, but if it did, it would be cheap and easy. See the area to the left of the clutch and above the floor mat in the attached pic. Does yours look anything like that? I can't remember the amount of pan intrusion or the angle of the wheel well on yours.

At Morro Bay I was specifically looking for dead pedal ideas and saw this beaut.
Hard to see in the picture but the owner told me it was an extra clutch pedal that was mounted to the side of the steel beam. He said it required just a little bending and of course drilling. But it looked very cool.
David, that set up looks great.

After driving about 750+ miles this weekend I need a dead pedal for the next drive, and maybe an armrest.

Mickey,

These are on eBay. 4 pedal covers: dead pedal, brake, clutch and accelerator buy it now price is 12.00 or so. You might be able to use the dead pedal with modifications. Here is the link....

Also they are available in various colors. Thinking about buying a set myself.
I threw this dead pedal together this morning out of some scrap metal I had lying around. Sorry I didn't think to take a picture before I installed it. It's 1/4" flat aluminum with a 1-1/2" piece of angle iron screw into it for the mounting bracket. I welded in a cross member with a bolt that goes through the fender well. Oh, the oil pressure guage is new. Got it from Palo Alto Speedometer with a special sender. Works good.
Nice Warren. I pretty much did the same thing but instead of aluminum I used my old gas pedal so it matches the brake and clutch.

I was hoping to find someone who has done a pedal like the one on Ruby but for a VW pan based car. I may do one up this winter and I'll make a pattern for it so others can too. I don't know about the rest of you but I HATE driving my car without one. I don't understand why this isn't a more common option from the makers. It's kinda like the turn signal switch thing, a relatively simple thing that makes the car better looking and more comfortable.

How much of a pain in the ass was it to put that oil pressure gauge in? Did you do it or have someone else do it. I'm gonna be putting a CHT and Oil Pressure in this winter what did the gauge cost if you don't mind me asking?
Allan sent me a pic of Ruby's pedal. Check out how the hi-lo beam switch is incorporated into it, sweet.
This is what I'll be fabing up for pan based cars this winter. Then I'll sell the plans and be rich beyond my wildest dreams!!!! Uh, or I'll just post them here for all of you to use if you want.

The other pic is my old set up that I reattached today because I can't stand not having one.
The plan for the winter is a whole new pedal set up (new or cleaned up old) that will look more "outlaw racy". I want to do an aluminum floor board with my accel pedal as the roller it is, the clutch, brake and dead pedal in diamond plate and paint the pedal arms aluminum. I think it'll look bad-ass with black rubber mats.

I installed it myself. I used the existing idiot light wire. I don't need a pressure guage and an idiot light. Besides, to run another wire would be a job, to do it right. It's just a matter of screwing in the new sender in the same place the old one was. I had to drill a hole in the dash with a hole saw. No big deal, just have to be careful. The guage was $145 and the sender $41. The guage is VDO lookalike and matches the other instuments. For me, it was well worth the money as when I first installed my 30mm oil pump, my filter failed and I became an oil sprayer down the street. Luckily, I caught it before going too far. I have since installed a pressure relief oil pump cover and I let the car warm up before driving. I am also using a Wix racing filter. I installed a Mocal sandwich plate adapter to the filter adapter to keep the oil away from the oil cooler until it reaches 180 degrees.
Ouch, Terry!

Hey, Mickey, if you're going to eventually install a roll bar, functional or not, it's not a terrible design idea to mimic the shape in the dead pedal. Consistency of the car's smaller design elements is what I find most attractive in Speedsters.
The exhaust hanger that I used was a perfect, miniature match for my roll bars, the arches of the front fenders, the bump on the dash and so on. There are also two for the passenger.
If you're going to go with the long, single-bar roll bar behind the seats, for example, you might want to bend up a quarter-inch piece of rolled steel and make a miniature, proportional bracket with tabs for bolts.
A TT-style hoop is easy, and so is the Boxster style.
Food for your endlessly creative mind. I was going to change mine eventually, but I like the flow of the design in keeping with the overall theme.
I know you've already looked at ours, but this picture is a rebuttal to Terry's comment -- diamond plate CAN be tasteful. ;)

Terry,
Thanks for the generous offer, but go ahead and pass it along to Marty. I may go the route of Dave K. with the brake and clutch pedals and use the accel pedal as the dead pedal (I have a roller for my accel).
This winter I'm hoping to jazz up the inside of the car a bit by making the pedal area, as well as the rest of the cockpit, look a little more "business like". That's when I'll try to fab the dead pedal/hi-lo switch. I also plan to put in the oil press & CHT gauges so maybe I can incorporate some of the "lighten weight" look into the mounting bracket for the gauges.
Cory,
I don't think I'm gonna do a roll bar unless I can make it truly functional. I do like to look of the old CMC style ones but it's probably too much trouble to install for a non funtional one.
Terry,

I must have caught Eddie in a weak moment. I did ask first before I took the pic. It was great seeing some of the mods at Morro. Its the individual custom features that really sparks my interest. Way more than you can see in just one weekend. I only saw a few things, really not enough time.

Your Pedrini's were fine! And you have possibly created another Wheel monster, I just got these Mahle four lug rims (4 good and 1 rough) with lugs. Can't wait to get them next week.

Chewing on which type of dead pedal to install.

Talking about gauges, Im real happy with my DD CHT, can read it with a glance.

Thats even better that they were the Mahles. Your rims really stood out at Morro to me. The detailing/paint/polishing was really nice and I was thinking along those lines. Sorry to be a copy cat but imitation is a sincere form of flattery you know.
I was just searching for finishing threads and found this link for starters.

Any tips or hints would be mucho appreciated.
What caps did you use?
Did you paint or powder coat?

When I got home I found pics and showed them to my wife (thinks I'm Mad) and she liked the Mahle better than the Pedrini wheels.

Dave
I was going to polish the aluminum, but what the heck, it's a pedal. It's someplace to put my left foot when I am not shifting. My right foot is generally pretty busy, but my left foot, well, you know what I mean. I just put some 3M non-skid on it. I figure my foot will be covering it most of the time anyway. There are certainly other things on this car that I would rather doll up than my dead pedal.
