Jerry, You may want to consider adding a rubber mod like this(on my old VS). I had an interior guy do this for me. The carpet wears out fast especially since you will be putting your foot on that dead pedal regularly.
good idea-I see the fuzz starting to rub off the carpet already--also im in the process of making a ctr console in front of the shifter made of phillipine mahogany with a brushed ss bezel on top with two cup holes and a small storage bin-it will match the steering wheel--we plan to make several
Dead pedal or not, my left foot rubs on that area enough just from high mileage. Not up to high standards as usual, but my cure was to cut up a small piece of carpet and screw it in with "upholstery screws". Any decent carpet shop will bind a small piece for about $5.
my solution to the worn carpet was to cut and bend a sheet of embossed aluminum and hold it with self tapping screws. So far my foot has not worn a hole in it.
