I'm new to this car. Before I got it, it burned in the engine compartment and the deck lid was damaged by the fire. I would like to replace the deck lid. It is warped and could be repaired but I'd love to buy a new one. Trouble is, I don't know what company made this body and I'm afraid that I'd better know what company manufactured it in order to insure that it fits. I don't know where to look to identify who made this body. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your input.

The license plate light looks like CMC. If the deck lid grille is intact show us a picture of that to confirm. The CMC grille is cast with a single wide cross bar.
Is there any name printed on the deck lid hinges?
The bad news, even if we identify the body and you find one from the same manufacturer, the lid won't fit perfectly. It will be a custom fab job no matter what you do. But, it has been done, and there are some here who have done it.

Maybe I'll have it re-formed / repaired. Thanks for your quick, learned responses.
It is definitely a CMC deck lid. I didn't have to do any fitting for mine. If you use a lid from another manufacturer you may have to but it seems like it would be minor.
Thank you all so much! I will look into this at CMC's website immediately.
Also, I will keep an eye on this website for future info and any advise I can give. ( engine and trans stuff) Again guys, really appreciate the help!!!
There is no longer any CMC website--out of business long ago. You will have to find one from someone that stockpiles parts--maybe Alan or Troy???. Getting ready to learn how to glass in my rear valance double cutouts for those dual tipped Empi exhausts as I prefer the clean look down under.
Yep. Just found that out, thanks. Like I said, it's not destroyed. I just absolutely HATE dealing with autobody guys. All they wanna do is quick easy stuff. ARG.

Since it is fiberglass check with a boat repair place or a shop that specializes in Corvettes.
Right, Robert, thanks. I just dread even talking to a body guy. Every time I have, I get either turned down because it's not a bolt on replacement, ( I drive old cars ) or bad results ( poor workmanship ) . I'd rather go to the dentist. But I guess I'll try this winter to find a bodyman. And yes, the corvette idea is a good one.
Cheers!
If you get a CMC no real fitting (other than the hinge holes) is required. I sold a 30 year old CMC front hood to another SOCer and it fit perfectly. All CMC body pieces came out of a mold. Ok doors maybe a different matter.
You can buy a new outer skin with louvers either side from BECK and fit it to your inner panel.
Here's new CMC one in TN on Samba. $400 is a little steep though.

What a great community. Thank you.
Offer $280 and go up from there , you need it and he has it ...you would spend more to have yours straightened.
10-4. Gotta make a motorcycle payment this week. Maybe I'll have room in a couple weeks. This car has been a money pit. Good thing I got it for free. Came with no engine, 1100 miles on the build, burned, and wired by an idiot. I just ordered a 2017cc SCAT for my '66 type one right before this little gem landed in my lap. ( The '66 is in the top pic ) So I had to buy all the goodies that I was gonna transfer from the bug to the SCAT long block. ($$$) Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. But boy, have I been spending. I will finish this car paint wise this winter. Thank you all for your help. Great community, great help / advise / knowledge source.
Walleye Dave - I'm still trying to figure out this "CMC" web site! At least they aren't asking for deposits and taking orders? (They never built one with towel rack over-riders and not a single signature California wide-body pictured). I don't get it??
@ROBTRANSGUY, how far are you from the seller on theSamba?
If you don't snatch up that one you might not find another when you want it.
UPS the lid use the shipping code " SPARK" for 40% off.
OK WOLFGANG, I contacted the person with the deck lid and I suppose it's a pick up only type of sale. I'm not driving to I think it was Tennessee to get it and it seems he's unwilling to ship. Nice lid though. Thanks to everyone that responded to this post. I'll fix mine or find one later.

Rob ....get ahold of the seller, tell him you'll arrange a UPS pick up at his door and email him a UPS printable label.
Looks like he's just South of Knoxville and west of Gatlinburg, TN. Maybe someone on SOC is nearby and willing to pick up, box and ship to you?
I shipped a much, much larger front Speedster hood in early March via Greyhound. It was so large - others wouldn't ship it. An experience for sure - although they listed a very local station (it had closed years ago!), I drove 35 miles to Pensacola. Couple weeks ago, I was asked by a local SOC member where the Greyhound shipping station was - turns out they closed it in mid-April! Still a bus station but not a shipping station. Greyhound is really missing out on a growing market --- especially as their ridership falls!
Thanks fellas but if this guy can't package this and ship it on his own, in my opinion, he can keep it. I still have lots of other things to do anyway. It has to be ready by the 30th for an all air-cooled show here in Saint Louis....

Some guys just can’t be bothered Alan. I ran into the same thing last year when I bought a Mercedes bike rack on eBay from a guy in Atlanta. He couldn’t even be persuaded to drop it off at a fed ex location so they could pack and ship it.
Luckily, I asked on another forum and a member who lived in Atlanta grabbed it and shipped it to me like Wolfgang suggested.
Coincidentally, they lived less than a mile from each other.
I just bought a fiberfab uncompleted kit and it came with an extra deck lit and it matches your car. I may sell it.
WOW - talk about power of SOC forum! Some got short changed parts from FF/CMC - others got extras. I too (both sold) got extra frunk and engine lids.
I'll buy that sucker next week Amdy!!!
Epilogue: Andy and I have agreed to a price on his beautiful deck lid. It's even red! Thank you all for your help and again, anything I can do to help anyone here... Always!
