I'm new to this car. Before I got it, it burned in the engine compartment and the deck lid was damaged by the fire. I would like to replace the deck lid. It is warped and could be repaired but I'd love to buy a new one. Trouble is, I don't know what company made this body and I'm afraid that I'd better know what company manufactured it in order to insure that it fits. I don't know where to look to identify who made this body. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your input.

If you get a CMC no real fitting (other than the hinge holes) is required.  I sold a 30 year old CMC front hood to another SOCer and it fit perfectly.  All CMC body pieces came out of a mold.  Ok doors maybe a different matter.

You can buy a new outer skin with louvers either side from BECK and fit it to your inner panel.

Here's new CMC one in TN on Samba. $400 is a little steep though.

10-4. Gotta make a motorcycle payment this week. Maybe I'll have room in a couple weeks. This car has been a money pit. Good thing I got it for free. Came with no engine, 1100 miles on the build, burned, and wired by an idiot. I just ordered a 2017cc SCAT for my '66 type one right before this little gem landed in my lap. ( The '66 is in the top pic ) So I had to buy all the goodies that I was gonna transfer from the bug to the SCAT long block. ($$$) Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. But boy, have I been spending. I will finish this car paint wise this winter. Thank you all for your help. Great community, great help / advise / knowledge source.

Looks like he's just South of Knoxville and west of Gatlinburg, TN.  Maybe someone on SOC is nearby and willing to pick up, box and ship to you?

I shipped a much, much larger front Speedster hood in early March via Greyhound.  It was so large - others wouldn't ship it.  An experience for sure - although they listed a very local station (it had closed years ago!), I drove 35 miles to Pensacola.  Couple weeks ago, I was asked by a local SOC member where the Greyhound shipping station was - turns out they closed it in mid-April! Still a bus station but not a shipping station.  Greyhound is really missing out on a growing market --- especially as their ridership falls!

Rob ....get ahold of the seller,  tell him you'll arrange a UPS pick up at his door and email him a UPS printable label.

Some guys just can’t be bothered Alan. I ran into the same thing last year when I bought a Mercedes bike rack on eBay from a guy in Atlanta. He couldn’t even be persuaded to drop it off at a fed ex location so they could pack and ship it.

Luckily, I asked on another forum and a member who lived in Atlanta grabbed it and shipped it to me like Wolfgang suggested.

Coincidentally, they lived less than a mile from each other.
