I'm starting a new thread for any of you with pic's or comments about Saturdays activities on the hotel del run.....
I think it was a success, I want to thank everyone who showed up
Special thanks to David B for planning the southern route, although we cut it short, time just ran out to do all we had planned...
I want to thank Thunder Ranch for all the hospitality and the tour of their facility...It is quite impressive, anyone interested in a
Replica should check them out....
We had somewhere between 25-30 cars in all and it was not easy keeping us all together....This is a great group of guys and gals,
Thank you everyone..........

Vince; I would have liked to join in all the fun for your II annual run to San Deigo, but logistics and commitments as they were prevented this. I did go for a run saturday down the river road to Rio Vista and back, and I was there in spirit ,maybe next years run. I did see a couple of prches doing the same and exchanged waves of thumbs up. There is no annomosity on the road enjoying the drive top down, sun screen, and just cruising. Oh and by the way I like your black cap. They really fit the ride don't they.

Some random thoughts. I thought the run was great but a little too long, even the San Diego leg. Part of the reason was too many cars so my opinion would be to limit it to Speedsters, Spyders and 356 cars only. We may only have 15 cars but it will be more controlable. The detours were unavoidable and I felt I had to slow down or stop just to let everyone regroup. One thing we could do at the Del would be to reserve a portion of the deck so that we all could sit and talk together. I missed the opportunity to get to meet others in the group. Since we are driving so far why not block a bunch of rooms at a less expensive motel, spend the night and relax a little more. Hit the beach, have dinner, etc. The place across the street is nice and very reasonable. I would like to see the right seaters get more involved. How about some form of Rally where right seaters would identify points of interest, tally points, etc. ??? I think I could arrange for the trip to be video taped on a cost share basis? On a personal note I had a great time and the highlite of my trip was trying to keep David Salvato from bumping into me as we raced along Highland Valley Road. I had just changed my tire pressure to 24 in the back and 20 in the front and my hands were full in the corners but I think I was pulling away on the straights. Thanks for being a much better driver than me!
David, I'll be the first to agree that 30 cars is not manageable...
but, we did learn a few things for the future, and,I personally had a great time....
The wine run that we will be doing will be a "pot luck lunch" at the Fess Parker Winery, same as last year, that will give the "right
seaters" more involvement, and I think they will also enjoy the wineries....
Last year Teri and I stayed at a B&B in Solvang after the wine tasting, made for an enjoyable evening, and did a leasurely drive home Sunday morning....
I've got to check in here more often - I completely missed this planned activity.

Bill's notion about the "driving groups" is a good one. On the many PCA runs Pam & I have been on we always break into groups of no more than ten. The lead car in the group has a FRS radio, as does the last car.

In reality, a grouping of no more than six is even better - lots less slowing & stopping just to keep everyone together, especially if any of the drive is through an area with traffic signals.

Next time, guys, we'd love to be with you.
