Or.........................
There's a rag stuck in the fan inlet opening.
I stuck my hand in the fan shroud last night... after I turned the car off.
Paul: NO GUTS.....

That's funny. I've got enough Gots to hop in this car tomorrow and drive close to 700 miles. But no, not enough to turn my hand into dog food.
Think I found the culprit. Would a loose manifold at the head Do it. I can spin the nut with my fingers freely at the 3 cylinder.
EDIT: yea... That'll do it.

Paul -- you might want to think about replacing those manifold gaskets at the first opportunity. If the manifolds were that loose it is a logical leap the gaskets have been pulverized to the point of never sealing well again. An absolute tight seal is mandatory at this seam.
While you are shopping the stores for gaskets, get one of these: http://www.mooreparts.com/store/product/762/AC119221/
Then you can fearlessly stroke your shroud in the dark without risk of pulling back a stump. (It is worth the $12, if only for peace of mind)

burned manifold gasket at #3 might rich-out that cylinder and make it hotter, is it not so?
That condition on a trip to Atlanta might be cause for concern.
I'd take the Ferrari instead.

Lean out, I meant.
just got back from my 1,614 mile weekend trip to atlanta. Well, not just... about 3 hours ago. I had to take a nap. Getting through DC will wear you out.
Happy to report all 1614 miles were absolutely trouble free. Unhappy to report the porsche 912 motor my brother is running in his much heavier all steel '59 356A easily kept up with my 1915 cc from a dead stop.

Too much fun!!
1,614 trouble-free miles, Paul? You are the man! You'll be missed in Carlisle, we'll have to get a local gathering together later this year.
Cool Paul - glad you got to do that - great fun
Epic trip, bro! You were right to leave the Ferrari at home. We'll miss you in Carlisle.
