I have Dellorto carbs and my problem is that after driving the car the right side carb doesn't return all the way to the idle screw. If I goose the engine it will return all the way to the screw, but if I just let off the accelerator slow and smooth then it stops just before making it all the way back to the idle set point.

I'm thinking I need a new return spring on the carbuetor? Is this the correct fix or am I missing something?

Steven,

Determining what type/design of Throttle Linkage you have; go forward with your own idea. If you have individualy Throttle Return Springs, compair both Springs; is one longer then the other? Check for loss of Spring Tension. Check to see if there is resistance on the Right Carburator Throttle Shaft this could result to inconsistant closed throttle position.

Obviously, you want the throttle shaft assembly closing when you don't have the throttle depressed.

I have a Hex-Bar Throttle Shaft for my Dell's with Dual Throttle Return Springs and a Main Throttle Cable Return Spring. I prefer a somewhat "Stiff" Throttle but it closes to the same positon when the throttle in not depressed.

Good Luck,

Jack Blake
Often with Dell's the throttle shaft bearings become gummed up, hanging up from fully returning to the idle position....
On the throttle shaft ends, bend the nut retainers out of the way to be able to remove the nuts and washers lining them up on a piece of cardboard the same way they come off so you'll know in what order to reassemble them , there will also be a thin black washer that gets gently pryed off ( work it off the threaded rod slowly) to find the throttle shaft bearings, spray some brake / carb cleaner in the bearings and lightly regrease them with a good quality white grease and reassemble.
You'll find that the shafts move freely and return to the idle position with ease.
