I am thinking of changing the wheels on my Vingage Spyder to a newer (non-conventional) style however concerned about the wheel offset. I would like a wheel that has the tire completeley within the wheel well so it does not rub when hitting bumps. Has anyone switched wheel design in their Spyder?
There are a few, I've got quite a few pictures of them. I would suggest you contact any good wheel manufacturer and ask them the best way to find out. I know my 'stock' chrome wheels have a 1" offset, moving the wheel in by 1" over the standard and they fit perfectly. The only problem is I can't find autocross tires (start at 205/50/15) that will fit as I'd need more offset and a bit wider rim.
If you have wide-five wheels (5x205mm) Alex Bivens custom makes aluminum 550RS replica wheels with CNC centers tig welded in a jig to aluminum rims. Rim width choices are 5.5", 6.0", 7.0", and 8.0". Working with backspacing instread of offset, the 5.5" and 6.0" wheels are offered with 4.0" to 4.5" backspace (mounting surface to inside rim) and weigh 10 lbs. each. The 7.0" and 8.0" widths may be available with more backspacing and probably weigh about 11 lbs.
