There's lots of them offered by outlets like CB Performance, CIP or So Cal Imports. It's best to check out Hot VW's magazine; you'll see them all in the ads listed with prices.
Which brand is best? Sort of depends upon what you plan to do with them and how much you want to spend. There are $300 disk brakes and $1500 disk brakes. If you just want to improve your braking on a street driven car, then Karman Ghia front diskes are the cheapest way and perhaps the best $ for $. If you plan to go racing then "best" would be something else.....I have 4 wheel disc's from SOCAL, and they are wide 5's. They were cheaper than some others, but they weigh a bunch....they work fine but I wouldn't buy then again because of the weight. By taking the so called cheaper route I will get to buy some more expensive but much lighter ones, so I didn't save anything...actually spent more...."best" for you depends upon your personal requirements, and only you know what that may be.....
Front wheels, rear wheels, or both? What sort of wheels? IRS or swing axle?
Give a bit more info, and I'm sure someone will be happy to help.

I went with CB Performance for all four corners. The rear set were a bear to dial in; took about 1,000 miles and hadda bleed them three times and get the pads broken in first. They work like a champ now.

Thanks for the great replies... In doing a bit more research, I have discovered that the CB Performance Disc sets are the only ones that will work with lowered spindles... I have a 66 pan with ball joint front end...
I am shortening the pan tonight/tomorrow... a bit scarry... will post pics when done...
Thanks for the help...

Is your car a VS If so measure the body holes 2 o 3 times to be sre You get the same numbers. then make a jig that sticks in the same pan holes .
It is best to cut the throttle and clutch cable pipes lose at the K the pull them out at the back as you slide the tunnel back together. (A neet trick.)
Your next concerns will be to keep the rear K and the front beam level so your frame is not twisted.
Slowly spot weld the thing together making sure it does not warp as the metal gets hotter. LET IT COOL and take breakes after welding in jump around spirts never staying in one place to long.
I removed a 3 foot secion of the tunnel bottom and added 2 incert 3/8 plates down the sides then drilled zig zag welds holes down the sides and welded them in to make the tunnel even stronger than factory.
I then replaced the bottom pannel and trimmed it to fit the shorter tunnel.
Someone once raised concerns about adding tow hooks to my car saying the frame was not strong enough. But i knew how well it was built

Steve,
CB discs are not the only ones which will work with lowered spindles.
I'm running standard VW discs & calipers with CB lowered spindles.

If you need really big breaks you can use 944 breaks front and back.I went this route because I was going to use 911 pattern rims.
You need 944 turbo(fronts) if you have a dropped spindles.
I paid $200. for everything I needed.
go here for more info.

airkewld got some sweet looking rotors and you can get wilwood calipers.
OK But which ones are BEST, all around? I know drilled is a plus. ? single piston or double piston.
Which ones don.t bind or back off after hard cornering.

I haven't had a bit of problem with mine. CB Performance discs; readily available and simple to install with dropped spindles as part of the deal.
They were a while to break in, like about the first tune-up, but there's enough brake there to stop my psycho hosebeast in its tracks.

You have drum on the rear . I have disc all around. Im thinking about going back to drums rear. It has good brakes but my beetle still has better petal.
Im thinking the rear calapers are'nt floating correct. I still have to pump one lick after hard cornering.
For the most part I just baby it. and it does fine. But it is a Mistery.

If by 'you,' you meant me, Barry, they're all four CB discs.
I don't know what Steve has. ...

That the same as mine also from Cb I guess I was looking at the wrong pic.
I was concidering some upgrades. Like drilled rotors . I know I could do them myself but I already have 3 projects and and less time to do things. as is . The goffey gadjet is in the for front right now and we are making swift progress. with it.
Im thinking V Dub may be my best bet to just buy a set.
Two new questions.
Which work and are better single piston calipers or 944 double piston calipers?
I've heard the double offer more braking power but are more likely to bine.
which would give you more brake for your bucks?
