Anyone know about this?
Person verifying the VIN is asking for that.

Sounds like you are trying to get an out of state car registered in California and this is one of the potential problems when you are required to get a VIN verification on a replica Speedster.
@Speedster Alli wasn't the car you bought already registered in CA?

Well CHP was super cool and signed off so hopefully all is good now.

Thought it was but turned out he brought it in from out of state and did a temp operating tag. So first time registering in California. I think all might be good now. If not I have a friend that is a manager at a location kind of far from me but he said I could give him all the paperwork and he would get it done.
Always good to have friends or family in town, city, county and state venues.... greases the wheels so to speak.

In a lifetime of dealing with DMVs I’ve learned one thing: If you don’t get the answer you’re looking for, ask someone else.
Despite signing off on registering my Spyder as a 1955 Special Construction so it would qualify for $20/yr registration, the local office is usually a PITA.
If I have to do something iffy, I go to the main office about 25 miles away and it’s never a problem.

@Troy Sloan is there some new “safety sticker” added to the CA registration process since mine was originally registered in ‘96 with the CA stickers I posted above?
I know my modern cars (‘08 Smart and ‘02 ML) have CARB compliance stickers beside the usual VIN plates/stickers.
Not that I'm aware of. What does your title say it's registered as?

It says it’s a 1955 Special construction now but when I bought it it had a FL title as a 1996 Beck Spyder.
I live in Utah which is relatively laissez faire when it comes to registration.
So turns out I had to get the VIN verified by CHP. Did that and they now call the car a special construction and it defaults to a 0000 model year. Thought that was it went back to the DMV but they could not submit with the smog exemption since it was now a 0000. Next step was the Bureau of Automotive Repair to request a smog exemption on . Had to go back to the DMV to get the request processed, now I have a sequence number, wait for a letter in the mail. Once I get the letter call back the BAR and the schedule a virtual inspection, all passes then I go for an in person inspection. They sign off and my registration is processed. A big pain is the AXX but it can be done.
if anyone reads this and needs help reach out.
So you still have a virtual inspection and an in person inspection to go through. What will they be inspecting that hasn't already been inspected?
Wow. Just curious, you bought the car in California, right? Was it already registered and titled, and if so what did the registration say, and what state was it held?

inspecting the car owner's wallet for administrative fees
