Does a 912 Porsche tach fit a VS dash opening?

I can't stand the "tach goes here hole" in my dash any longer while I wait for Kirk to send me a replacement that's coming "sometime" ( he has about 35 people waiting for replacement tachs ).
Will a VDO Porsche 912 tach fit tmy VS dash hole & work?

If VS is using the standard knock-off guages (brazilian etc), then the 912 tach will fall through the hole as it is smaller in diameter...
