Kevin.
Are these the new Empi 17 X 7 wheels? If so, I went and looked at them at Vee Dub in Huntington Beach last weekend. The polished chrome version are very nice and a set of them will cost you $750 from Vee Dub. The black and polished version are way cheaper and looked like crap. They are not actually polished at all and Empi calls it a "satin finish." Really cheap and tacky looking. I almost ordered a set, because I assumed they were black and polished like a real Fuchs wheel and it looked like it in the web site photo, but I decided to hold off and I'm glad I did.

These are the chromed Empi ones. They are 10 X nicer then the black and silver, and at least 5 x nicer then I expected when I opened the box......

I'm getting everything together to start installing the Mendeola A-arm front end and then shortly after the full rear end on my speedster.... I'll be posting photos here of the install....
oh man - i wish i was closer so i could come over to drink beer and play cars.

sounds like a fun build Kevin - looking forward to the pictures

i've loved those 17's since they came out. they are the perfect per portions and i think they'd look sharp on one of our plastic tubs

i was at a show this past summer and couldn't figure out why i loved a set of beetles so much till i looked at all the photos afterwards. they are all killer stances on 17" fuchs.
I know it is way too slammed. I will not be that low, however I posted the pictures because it has 17's. I'll be installing 17x7's all the way around with a Mendeola coil over IRS rear suspension that narrows the rear track by 1 1/8 inch perside without any mods to the torsion housing. The front is going to be the Mendeola A-arm kit installed without taking the body off.

So this car is going to ride way nicer then a VW or any porsche, and I will allow anyone who might want to test drive to do so....
If you get a chance you'll have to drive my car once it is done. THe Mendeola suspension uses coil over Fox racing shocks at all four corners. With these we can control spring rate and shock valving getting the correct package together is the key. I would not want to go bouncing down the road with these wheels on a VW suspension...
Ok, guys... Yes it will be able to pull a G but it will also ride smoother due to the far batter suspension. With the valving and springs we are using, the low profile tires will not effect the ride. You guys are just going to have to drive it first hand and feel what I'm talking about.....

I could not get the pictures to load up on here so here is a link to the samba....

There are 17" Fuchs - kind of. They start out as 16" x 6" (I think) and the center is cut out then put onto a 17" outer - think 3 pce wheel. One maker welds them, one bolts them which is a surprisingly pleasant look. Jeff Alton makes them, someone in Canada makes them. There are also some pressure cast knock-offs that are supposed to be very high quality - Rota? - that are 17". Those starting coming out in the last 2 years or so. Definately cheaper than the ones that are made, but they are cast. They are only a little bit heavier than the forged ones.

Fuchs of any size look good on a speedster. Light strong and sexy - what more do you need?
