I drove my Spyder for 10 months of ownership with no front plate, and even a faux black-on-yellow rear plate. I drove past many parked CHP cops (California)with nary an eyebrow raised. Frankly, I think it depends on the cop. My suggestion to those who cringe and shiver at the thought of going plateless: Don't worry about it, and if you get stopped, pay the fine, then go back to being plateless. Make sure you keep the plate under your seat in case you get stopped. If you have a fake plate, keep both original plates handy. As for the camera thing, there is a spray-on (stick-on??) stuff for your plates that drive the cameras crazy, making it difficult for them to pick up the numbers, but still allowing the numbers to be seen by eyeballs. See www.radarbusters.com. Great website, BTW for radar detectors. Operated by a retired cop and traffic radar instructor.
