Jan--if "a "contactless ignition stystem" means points then the answer is yes.

I went with a Mallory Unilite distributor that uses a solid state ignition module (like Petronix) and the gauges worked just fine.

For those using the Mallory Module solid state modules Tangerine racing ststes " If your car will not start, but it was fine the last time you drove it, there's a good chance your ignition module has failed. Particularly if you have solid core spark plug wires.  I don't know if this applies to all solid state modules such as Petronics.  I installed a set of MSD Spiral Wound Spark Plug Wires for this reason.

On trips I carry a spare module--cheap insurance.

Hi all,

"contactless ignition stystem" seems to be the wrong word but i could not find a translation on google... I think, we are talking about the same. I added a picture of the ignition sysem to be sure.

The reason for my question was, that some RPM gauges got problems with these ignition systems and I did not want to order it and it does not work in the end.

So it seems to work so thank you for the answers ;-)

Jan Peter,

lots of people on here are using contact-less ignition modules.  I have a reproduction Tach from Vintage Speedsters and I am using a CB Performance "Magna Spark", others use Pertronix modules and still others use different modules.

I have not read of anyone using mechanical point contacts (and I think few people now remember how to set them properly!), but there are still maybe a few people out there who have not changed.

All of these seem to work OK with Chinese reproductions of VDO Tachs, but, honestly, you can never tell until you get the module and try it out.  Usually, if it grounds (earths?) that side of the coil enough to fire the spark it will also work with your tach.
