Just throwing this out there to see if anyone else - every once in awhile - ever feels that "squeek, squeek, squeek" after driving over something, and the nearest flatbed tow truck is hundreds of dollars away? I've had my VS for almost 2 yrs. and I've only got 5,000+ miles on it; but some of them have been w-a-a-y out in the boonies. That's when that nasty little thought goes through my head: Their ain't no friggin' spare! I do carry a can of the "blow it up & be on your way" stuff, but I'm sure that's more to keep me calm, than ever being worth a damn, if I do, indeed, get a flat! Has anyone in the same situation ever "FUBAR'd" their Speedy because of putting the miles on sans a spare?

AAA Gold Card is my road trip insurance and good for 100 tow miles(also have a car trailer at home) Some speedster owners that have the smaller fuel tank can lay a small spare into the trunk area. Or move the battery to the engine compartment at the right rear tailight as Carey at Special Edition does and you'll have room for a regular size spare and jack(... not Daniels) Or get a small gel battery $130 and mount it most anywhere. ~Alan
Thanks for those suggestions, but they won't work for me. You see, I had one bitchin' Amp put on a little custom built platform that sits on top of the battery. Between that and replacing Kirk's (VS) original pussy speakers with some good "boomers", I can, at least, now "hear myself" coming down the road. I figure I can just crank the tunes up loud enough to drown out that "squeek, squeek, squeek" sound.
Ernie's trunk inventory (and AAA card) would provide most drivers with the peace-of-mind you seek while driving in remote areas. Its a good list.

FWIW, I also have a VS and store a full-size spare in the trunk. Maybe you would consider remounting (re-wiring) your amp onto the bulkhead in the rear passenger area.

Pic #1 shows the Bazooka sub-woofer I mounted on my rear deck area. An amp could mount just behind the Bazooka (secured to the bulkhead). Maybe build or install some type of vented cover (with key lock) to keep the amp secured out of sight.

Pic #2 shows how I've situated my spare tire and parts I think I'd need for most any typical VW roadside repair.

Not pictured is the aforementioned AAA card in my wallet (39 year member). I've got 120K Km on my VS (approx 75,000 miles) and I've never had to use my spare tire (knock on wood).

Do what you feel most comfortable with...I'm just saying.

I cut the bottom out of the nose to get my battery in deeper, that way I can mount both the battery and a space saver up front without even going near the useable space. A bit of work to get it 100% right, but once my Porsche fuel tank is installed, I should have much more space to use up front than I do now.

I for one could not drive without one. Too many hazards in South Africa and you do NOT want to be stuck out in the middle of nowhere.

Pic of the wheel up front was before the battery was dropped.

I have had one blow out in more than a million miles of driving. No other tire failures, an ocassional low tire that goes immediately to repair if it does not hold a refill. I also have an AAA card if needed. So, I am pretty comfortable with no spare. I have 3 cars that use spacesaver spares and 2 of the 3 spares remain in the garage. The wife's car keeps the spacesaver just to keep her from the "worry of having no spare". And she would think it completely irresponsible not to have it. Like she would change it on the road anyhow?
Thanks for all your comments, ideas, and suggestions! I've decided to go with a 16 oz. bottle of SLIME tubeless sealant and then use the very compact (plus clips directly onto the batt.) SLIME Power Sport Tire Inflator. This is "supposed to" fill up to a 1/4" hole in the tire; and then get me far enough so that I can, hopefully, get Speedy up on a rack (even in Bumphuc, Montana) for a "proper" fix, or, at least a real plug - I'll also carry a SLIME Deluxe Tire Plug Kit. These three items won't take up much space - sticken 'em down on both sides of the battery; and the TOTAL cost was only $70 delivered. The best thing: NO MORE "Sphincter Squeek!" Thanks, again, for all your input!
