I have just put my second engine in a year in my IM (due to overheating ) and am very concerned with the fact that the standard dog hoiuse tin which delivers the hot air from the fan shroud out the bottom of the engine has to be cut off since the U bracket which suports the engine gets in the way. Can anyone shoot me a picture of the dog house tin exit on their IM.
I would be very grateful. Henry did field my call even tho he is as they say in the great white north "on holiday" but he is not at the factory and can't send me a photo. I am scared to drive very far for fear of overheating yet the beach and bergs beckon.

Ralph, on my 84IM I had my mechanic install a remote oil cooler over the tranny. I had a 911 style shroud, so it was the only oil cooler I had. The cooler had a fan attached to it that came on when the temperatures reached 180/190 degrees. You may need to install a remote cooler, but I'm surprised your doghouse won't do the job. Do you have a very high hp motor, or live where it is really hot?
You also may want to look at Jake Rabe's new T1 shroud.
Ralph,
As long as you exhaust the air that's passed through the cooler to outside of the engine compartment, you should be OK.
Here's a picture of a (fairly) stock doghouse tin set up. You'll see that the air is exhausted outside of the rear (flywheel end) engine tin.

I think a remote cooler is going to be necessary cause I did a doghouse exit shroud and this afternoon while cruising in 90F temps the insulation around the tin got so hot it melted, dropped onto the exhaust and started to burn. THaNK god I had m y fire extintinquisher. BTW, what shoiuld the oil temp read? My VDO guage which is confirmed by my candy thermometer tells me the oil temp is 230F at the pan which is understand too hot. WIth a new rings and 95F weather temps do you think it is acceptable?
Ron:
I do not have a infra thermometer but a friend does and I will go by his place to check. The local techs difffer on 190F while anoither says 220F is not bad when one considers the motor is tight new and temps are in the 90Fs. I am going with Gordon's suggestion to go with a cooler plug and trying differnet idle jets.
Right now my worst symtom is spitting. at around 2k rpm.
Henry sent me a photo of how hot air leaves the dog house and my set up is right on.
I solved the heating problem by RTFM. Yes you hi techsters knows what that means---READ THE F%^&%$%^* MANUAL! It states that my engine with 40 Dells require 60 Idle jets. I unfortunately decided to use reason. After all the 60/140 set-up was when the car had a 2180. I figured with a 1776 I should step down to a smaller jet. Wrong! IT ran hot, and missed at off idle. Put the 60s back in and it purrs and runs cool in this 95F weather. ANyone need a set of 55s and 45s? A note. With the 60s the plugs tended to be too dark so I went to a hotter plug. Runs smooth, cool and plugs are nice brown cahrcoal.
Interesting indeed about the cooling issues. Although up here it insn't as hot as long. I was wondering is everyone had the HOLE in the firewall with a flex tube going under the car? I have one and thought that this was normal but it seems that it is not.

What I have a 6 inch aluminium flex pipe connected to a hole in the firewall and it goes down near the started under the right wheel. I imagine this exhausts quickly and as well vents like mad.
