I'm having a simple problem with my inside door handle. I want to put the trim piece on but now how do I get the dowel pin in. The trim piece blocks access. Anyone else with this ordeal. I'm puzzled.

PS. I pulled the panel and found the handle assembly shimmed so as the
handle shaft doesn't stick out far enough. Should be an easy fix.

I think you're on to the fix - you have to have enough play on the shaft to push the bezel in enough to get the pin inserted. I have about 3/16" of foam padding between the vinyl and the board behind it, and that allows enough "give" to push the ring in and insert the pin using a pair of needle nose pliers. Once inserted, the ring is allowed to expand back out and it holds the pin in place. If you don't have the padding, but the board behind the vinyl has a bit of give, you'll get the same result - push the board in til it bottoms out (assuming you have no shims holding it out too far), place the ring on the shaft, then insert the pin and let everything flex back out and you should be fine. If not, send along another post to let us know what's happening.

It was a wrestling match, but I used some needle-nosed pliers that came with a bend in the nose... sort of like a roach clip...The angle allowed my stubby-fingers and the pushin' on the eustcheon (?) to free up the pin when I wanted to pull the panels and I made certain I cut a large enough diameter hole in the new (old) panel when it went back in.
It was a corker.
