Is anyone aware of exterior door handles without push-buttons in them? Sounds silly, but I won't be using them to open the doors. I just want them to cover the holes left by removing the CMC ones. I've got billet thingies on there now just to cover the holes the old ones left and meet the code at the same time.
They're a little chunky for what I'm after, but Maryland's vehicle code says you have to have something exterior with which to open the door.
I WAS going to shave them completely and glass over the whole area.

How about something along these lines. Ghia door handle, drilled and painted body color. Of course, you would also be removing the key works and little release trigger/mechanism for a cleaner look.

The handle is held on with a small "tang" at the rear and a single screw at the front. If you want a pair to play with, lemme know . . .

Jim, you're a riot! That should read "Tire-kicking, laps-around-the-immovable-object-running, tool-getting, picture-taking, soda-opening, head-scratching, idea-dreaming-up, pain-in-the-Sartwell-a**-being understudy to the Man."

TC, you're on. I'll take you up on the Ghia pulls, with or without the rubbers. You want that mirror or some fab work in trade?
Cory,

Email me your address again and I'll send off a pair of Ghia door handles for you to play with, I probably have a set of gaskets as well. The gaskets really serve to set off the handles well, especially with the handles in body color. That mirror is still too nice for me to own, just take the handles.

Luck,

TC

I'll be mailing you one mirror. If you want to, ship the handles slow-boat to my PO box:

It's a mail service; they'll call me when they're in. No hurry whatsoever, since I'll be very busy for the next two weeks.
I'll launch the mirror after the PA show. Believe me, it's a fair trade.
Saw something neat on OverHauling where Skip Foos did a Dodge Magnum. After exchanging the front end with a Chrysler 300 his crew put on door handle/opener assemblies that blended in with the door and opened when you placed your hand on it. They were virtualy invisible, I didn't catch what they were called, maybe another member does. As for me I'd trash those things you've got now and put dummie handles and use the 550 Spyder's cable release system. Everything thing else is soooo cooool but if Maryland requires exterior handles how do they regard windshield wipers?

Nolan, I just got my jaw off the floor. I hadn't even thought about the wiper issue. Holy crap - I've got some reading to do!

Ben, I'm going to go have a look-see at Crazy Larry's yard next week. They'll be the temps I've been looking for, and I can use them without any re-work. What a cool idea!

Free to a good home: Billet door handles. Never used. Look like they belong on a Jeepney ...
I'm going to make a suggestion here that may actually get me THROWN off this site...

At a home improvement store - check out the cabinet door handles and handles for drawers. Alot of them come with great shapes, in brushed nickel or other metal colors. One of them might be a real interesting shape for a door handle.

You're a pretty handy guy Cory - you may come up with a fabulous idea from a home improvement store.

No worries, Angela. I've already been to the ole' Depot twice looking for parts. I got my clips for the locator bolts and the retaining pins for my rear hatch there.
The giant door-handle hurdle is how to cover that gaping hole where the push-button was. I'll be using the TC method for the long-term, I think, and Ben's suggestion of the Altima handle for the near-term.
I'll be going back to the 'pot, though. I need weatherstripping and Dynamat.
I ain't scared. I'll keep posting pics; keep any/all suggestions coming! I've never done this before, so everything I do on or to this crate is uncharted territory for me.
