Funny topics I know.... I am putting together my design for a 356 build potentially (still). Curious about finishes of door handles. The normal chrome ones, or black finishes, or even color matching. I hope for black or color matched.

What are folks doing here? What can be done?

Ok, stereos. I see the 'vintage look' ones, which look to come from Woodys Custom Shop on ebay. Any other choices? FM, USB, bluetooth, accessory jack etc being the needs of course. I have the most illegal, wanted, outlaw design going on in my clouded mind. Its a madness I think. Thanks for any info.

My car is serious. Four cam winder. ...Its on the wrong side of the law.

Here is what I did for a stereo. I wanted it to be as inconspicuous as possible. The display retracts behind the dash. The speakers are flat panels about 1/4" thick with a thing on the back that makes them vibrate. They are mounted in picture frames. The big one is mounted in the back of the passenger compartment.

@MaxMartens Max, I went with a Retro-Sound unit. Looks retro, has USB, BlueTooth, blah, blah, blah.

It would probably sound much better with an amp (and all that follows), but I didn't want to go down that rabbit hole. Speakers are mounted under dash. Sounds fine when just cruising the boulevards or coastline. At speed, the exhaust note is the music, not the stereo.

Were I to do this again, I would opt for what Mango and Joe have. Why?  Well, to be honest, here in New England there really isn't much left on FM (we lost AM to talk radio decades ago) that I would bother to listen to, so I always end up listening to CD's or to my iPhone, if anything.  Using Mango as an example, pair it to your phone on bluetooth and then listen to whatever you want, plus it is out of sight.  A powered subwoofer is a definite plus, especially at lower speeds.

Thanks gents! Interesting ideas each. I am not so inclined for a remote amp on this car. What you have MUSBJIM is what I am looking for, and I found something very similar with black knobs for what I hope to be is a basic black interior (with highlights!). And yes around town a bluetooth will be good. And bring on the exhaust note any other time!

Our '78 Camaro has a killer exhaust note also, and thats what I listen to in it! (it has the ancient 8 track w/one speaker on the dash & one on the package tray)

As I study many different new & old Porsches, and VW's too, I see various colors of door handles. Some silver, some black and on newer Porsches, color matched door handles too. JPS does not want to do color matched door handles (for color match reasons). My next best option will be black door handles. Getting a quality powdercoat which gets along with the button pushing in & out, plus the key hole could be a challenge? ...Or I may be stuck with silver door handles. (my old Ghia had color matched door handles way back when...)
