I recently purchased a speedster body unassembled and needing the doors mounted, although I know how the originals mounted I haven't a clue how the replicas mount, any help is appreciated and where can I get the correct hinges and what do they look like.

Hinges that fit all brands of Speedsters I'm aware of can be bought from -

Fixed shipping of $15 so see what other parts you need and include in single order.
My CMC came as a deluxe kit with doors already mounted. Here's copy of instruction page from early model build manual (located at Library tab - but you have to be a donating member to view/download).

Thank you, now I just need to find the template.

Contributing members should have access to the templates and build manuals in the document library.

I don't think any of the manuals have templates to make the metal brackets. If not in hurry I can measure distance that the door mounting holes are apart and you could buy some steel and make them. Is maybe the one in the main body there? Is your fiberglass body mounted to the steel sub-frame? Pictures might help. Did you get a big box or 2 of pieces? The build manual has a layout of pieces provided in kit - its in back of the later build manual.
I thought the front body hinges were attached to the metal 2x2" uprights on the steel sub frame.
I'm not sure who made this body and there was no steel frame. The fiberglass however seems strong enough if there were a steel reinforcement plate. I originally bought the body because I wanted to make a fiberglass hard top. The chassis will likely be a tube frame and I might use a Fiero front suspension. My next question is how does the front wind shield mount, does it attach to the pictured frame?
Sent you PM.
No windshield is NOT mounted to the steel sub frame - it just floats on the fiberglass body. See build manual for details. I did post a template for drilling the post mounting holes - I got it from CMC in 1989 and posted it here.
Thanks again for the info on the door hinges and windshield mount.
Forgot about MG Magic who bought up all the old CMC stock - Here's a pair for $49.99 (so $10 cheaper for a pair)

Ordered new door hinges. This body appears to be a copy of a replica and there's some indication of the previous hinge mounts on the body, the doors will be a different mater, now for the front hood hinges, because I'm using a tube frame, I'll have to figure that out on my own, there's no mounts. I will also need to find a used or new windshield, anyone got one? Thanks Wolfgang!
I think purists would be horrified to have seen me adjusting the doors on my original speedster with a plumbers torch and a floor jack
Not really. Sometimes on the original (steel) cars, door adjustments needed a little extra "persuasion" from a torch and floor jack.
Or a BFH and a pry bar, as a last resort.
I also just found a 1982 CMC unassembled kit. I have manual but door hinge template is missing. Can't find in library, also need windshield template. Any help much appreciated

I don't envy you.I don;t know who made my kit. I had to make my own template, fitting the doors was cheap entertainment. My doors were warped at the mounting location, and will require lots of work get them looking right. Are there any marks at the mounting locations on yours? are your doors trimmed to the body at least?
Mine is an '88 kit which came with doors already hung (called a deluxe version). So no template or guide. As I stated above, If you look in the early '80 build manual (page 15 figure 23) in the SOC library (visible to donors) there is "a guide" shown for mounting the doors -- that might help. Way back, I requested a template for the windshield posts and CMC faxed (yeah, was way back) me a template. I posted it here on SOC just do a search on "windshield post mounting".
I can't find a door hinge template anywhere, but I can go out and measure mine, both sides, and give you those measurements.
The windshield corner post template is below. It was scanned at 100%, but I can send you the file if it is altered by the site formatting.

does it say "caution, not a template"?
Yes - these are hand crafted cars --- not assembly line productions. No 2 are the same. Very same reason a hardtop has to be fitted to each individually - along with side curtains.

Do you have a hard top? are there photos? I think I read in here somewhere that fitting a hard top was no small feat.
Thanks for windshield "template" ,gives me a starting point. Door panels (inner and outer) are not bonded ,my chance to get good fit. Hinge measurements off the door post would give me a starting point there.

I won't forget you, but it's something like 5°f out in the shop right now, so you might have to wait til Sunday, when it gets up over 40°F !
Any dimensions in particular that you're after?
Gordo, You cheap ba##@@rd, still didn't buy that space heater, eh? Oh, I know, you could put the top down and just run the one in Pearl. Maybe that would do it?? But then there would be that pesky carbon monoxide . . . hmmmm . . .
I'm saving my beer cans for Northerns so they can make that soda can solar garage heater!
over adjusting the doors can have serious consequences

I really hope he does not asphyxiate himself in that car!! Lol.
You could get one of those universal Lambo door kits???
Foolthrottle (got a first name?)- Never seen those pics before; that's....different. I do like it, in an offbeat, totally bizarre way. Someone out there has far too much free time, though...
Template Do Not Drill the windshield post opening the 1" size show on the templates. Start with 3/8" then then gradually open the post hole just enough as needed confirming that you will have enough room on the underside of the dash to fit the extension tube, one end gets cut same degree angle as the post base and a washer ..... You may need to cut the radius from one side of the washer so it will slide all the way against under the dash) and slowly open it as needed making sure to angle the hole forward the same degree angle as the post base. Because the " build manual" didn't address this in detail, I've seen several homemade plates under the windshield post because the installer made the hole too big or was not correctly positioned. For caulking do not use 100% silicone it is a shiny black, ACE Home Centers sells a latex - silicone combo " Alex Brand " easy to work with, cleans up with a damp cloth and dries flat black very similar to the rubber.
Can anyone help with some door inner structure information?
