Door-pulls seem like a good idea to take the strain off of the latching door handles which are typically used to slam the doors closed by less-than-gentle passengers. 

I've seen them mounted just below the door's upper ridge. But I have no idea how they are secured.  Any clues?

We use a steel backer plate and rivnuts through both the steel backer and fiberglass.  The glass itself is plenty strong enough to handle the pull of the handle, but the fasteners tend to pull out, and using a nut and bolt is a true PITA since it passes through the door panel, which means the panel has two be in place when installed.

I've seen plenty of other builds, including some of our very early builds, where they were just screwed into the glass and it worked too, just not as stout and has the potential to fail much easier...
