Has anyone added door travel straps to thier car ? Any sources that work well ? Just trying to limit the travel of the door to prevent the door from hitting the body if it's opened too far.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks again,
Jim

Rather than door straps, consider cutting a piece of pipe insulation foam in half and sticking it to the inside of the body where the door will hit if it is opened too wide. Works great and is almost impossible to see especially on darker colored cars.
I have black door straps from a Jeep CJ.
Available at any Jeep dealer - reasonable cost and they have the pieces to attach to the door and body, too. Whole shebang was about #30 bucks, if I remember right.
The car is red so the pipe insulation won't work, and I did find some of the jeep straps. I also found these, but I am not sure if the leather may be too stiff and poke you when the door is closed.....

They also have a cup holder that is interesting.
I've done the pipe foam on a white car and it's very small and very hard to see because it is so far back in there.
That does address the paint protection part of the situation, but I would also like to protect the door itself. I have a 65 mustang and a friend of mine opened the door while the car was pointed nose first down a hill, he swung the door open and between it's weight and a bit of wind the door ended up with a crease in it from the over travel. Just trying to avoid this on a fiberglass car ! The straps should control the travel and not allow this situation to occur. I do appreciate the thinking outside the box ideas, many ways to skin a cat.
Thank you !
Go to your local discount/close out type store (TJ Max etc). Buy a plain black or brown belt, usually $5.00 to $10.00 each. Cut off the length needed for your straps, treat the ends with shoe dye to match the color of the belt and install with 4 trim screws. Buy a large size belt so that you can make another set or two, when the first set starts to wear out.

my hinges seem to have some kinda self checking capability....not possible to "over open"
JPS does a rubber Madonna-boob thing attached to the door frame. The door doesn't open wide enough for Haystack Calhoun to get in but it's fine for me.
If you want, I can snap a photo, providing I don't get too excited...

That's the bumper stop John Steele cuts off the suspension (you know, so your metal suspension parts can get acquainted with one another), and glued into the door jamb. Actually, it's not a bad idea, except the doors only open about a foot.
I noticed a serious body fiberglas problem with my car this spring and pulled the door to have it fixed. I called Thunder Ranch to find out why I was having the body problem on a new car. Tom told me that on their "turn key" cars they put a weldment on the hinge to prevent it from opening too far causing the problem I had. For some reason they didn't do that with their kits. I pulled the top hinge off both doors and just put a small bead of weldment on the hinge to keep the door from opening too far. Works great.

Ah, that John Steele. Always thinking.
And a dietitian as well!

Haystack Calhoun. Man you're older than I thought you were!
Troy,
I met Haystack, Kenji Shibuya, Cowboy Billy Watts, Ray Stevens and a host of other wrestling legends at a meet and greet, back in the day at the Cow Palace in South San Francisco.
Haystack was so big he sat on two chairs. Really nice guy as I remember.
