thanks guys. The side class and fly windows have DOT 247 and AS1 and "envemo" etched into them. The windshield does not have anything...unless it is under the rubber windshield gasket which is possible. I made the mistake of applying for "period correct" license plates for my car. What a mistake! Some DMV wanker says that my car has now been "red flagged" and should never been allowed to be registered in NY as a 1986 Envemo. They void my title send me to a NY state police inspection center for half a day and tell me they have to reassign a NY state vin to the car and that it has to be registered as a "1986 Custom" Fine. So now I have a new VIN...but I'm still not done. I have to go through this questionaire and record everything from windshield codes to tire codes. Then once approved by the DMV home office I have to go back to the local motor vehicle office to reregister the car. PITA!
Tell me about it...after working in DC and Manhattan I moved to the Redneck Riviera for culture shock. The good thing is it's like growing up in the 50's. No recycling, no state income tax, no vehicle inspections, you can actually burn your leaves, and (easy now Clintonistas) surrounded by Republicans. Also my Virginia educated kid looks like genius.
that is funny...the "redneck riviera" never heard that one. The funny thing about NY DMV is that it is pretty much the luck of the draw whether you go there in person or deal with someone on the phone. When I called the first time the rep was a complete weenie and would not listen to a word I was saying. He just kept on saying, "I know these cars they're just kits" I said, "no it is not, did you read all the information and documentation I sent" and he just insisted..."I know these cars" The guy I spoke to last week was the complete opposite and flat out said he couldn't believe that the other guy "red flaged" me. Just a couple of months ago when I was registering another car I ran into a problem because I am a "Jr." and my insurance card did not have "Jr" on it...the rep said if I had 7 forms of ID that showed no "Jr." then they could register the car...I called for a supervisor and she was an equal A$$. I told her "thanks for wasting my time" (1 hour wait!) and she flipped out. Unbelievable!
Dealing with DMV's.....With all the builds I have done, I've had to jump through many hoops both in NJ as well as here in PA. It's a toss up as to who you get at the DMV, if the transaction hits a wall due to a A--hole clerk, quietly gather all of your paperwork, "thank you" and just leave quietly.
Go to the next nearest DMV walking in with a smile, a pleasant greeting and simply ask... "I was wondering if, you might be able to help me?"
Try it as it works more often than not, you'll be amazed at the different way one clerk will interept the rules and regs.
