My wife and I spent the day with friends in Soquel, CA on Saturday. We also visited Aptos, Capitola, and Santa Cruz. While we were in Soquel we went to the Bargetto Winery and Soquel Vineyards for some wine tasting. In 2004 four members of the Bargetto Fanily became stranded at Rae Lake which sits near 10,000 fee. The Search and Rescue team I was on rescued them. (Story of the Rescue) I hadn't seen Paul Bargetto since the year after we rescued them so we stopped in to say hi. Paul recommended a restaurant for us to eat so we went to Little Tampico on Main Street in Soquel and had a hearty lunch.

When we walked out I saw a really cool VW Double Cab. I looked it over pretty thoroughly and the restoration was top notch. I went back inside the restaurant to see if I could spot the owner. No one stood out to me as being the owner and I asked  one guy at the bar but it wasn't his. The bus read "TANICH GARAGE Campbell, CA" on the side.  I tried to look it up but I can't find anything about Tanich Garage anywhere on the internet.

A couple hours later I saw the bus driving through The Village in Capitola. An older man (late 60's to 70's) was driving the double cab with his wife in the passenger seat. About an hour after that I saw a white Speedster with a single roll bar on the driver side adorned with a set of Fuchs. I couldn't my phone out quick enough to get a shot of it. Looked to be a reproduction car but it was nicely done and it sounded real nice.

About thirty years ago I restored one of these items found while looking for a pancake engine in South Georgia.  The owner of the engine casually mentioned that he had something I might be interested in so I  followed him out into a cornfield and after some searching found a double cab with corn stalks growing up through the bed. I offered 500 for it and he grabbed it and I  towed it home with a rope after putting on 4 good tires.

I think the fictitious Tannich Garage is part of the "historic" design

It might be but that is sure a lot of graphics to hand paint onto a car to get it an authentic look. I suppose his last name could be Tanich and the garage is at his house. There was no address, just a reference to the City of Campbell, CA, and there was no number to call.
