Down and probably out for Carlisle

I was planning on taking the wide body however needed a new rack installed. The garage needs to weld new tabs and will not be completed by Friday.

OK, I still have the standard I can take. Well i just found a gas leak at the bottom of the tank. I called several places in my area but, no luck. I will need to get one shipping out from CA and won't be here before Friday. Bum luck with both speedsters being out at the same time. Very disappointed.

Thanks Alan. I gave them a call. Out of stock til next week. One last option is to pull tank from widebody and put in standard. I haven't given up yet.

It's still fun, even without a car!
Personally, I'd swap the tanks. If the other car's out of service anyway ... It won't take more than a couple hours.
(And they'll have direct access to the rack to put the rack in. They'll love you!)

An I thought the Army was only service that cannibalized equipment! Drives the Logisticians (supply guys) nuts. CG once asked how many tanks were in Germany - first query was a huge number including petrol, water and septic tanks along with Abrams! Turns out he wanted to know how many Abrams were ready for battle. He didn't like the answer.

The rack I was referring to was rack/pinion for steering.

After driving to the other end of the County, I found a good, used tank. Took it back to the garage where it was being inspected. The garage informed me they would not cut the spout down for fear gas fumes might catch on fire when they weld. I tried a welding shop and they have same policy.

I ordered a new tank which will arrive next week. The gas leak is at the bottom and only a pin hole (no puddle on floor. In addition, I still leak at the sending unit.

I've decided to go to Carlisle on Sat. with old inspection, 1/2 tank fill-ups, and a fire extinguisher.

Bob; if you can reach the leak then use some Prestone Gas Tank & Radiator repair putty from Pep Boys or any auto repair shop. Works even if there's gas leaking when you apply it. Good temp fix that will last for ages. I'm using it on a weepy seam on my aluminum tank until I can go by SAS again.

Bob, try Double-Bubble.It works wonders,tastes good and you get a comic with it. Dries like concrete.

How was your trip to and from Carlisle with the leaky tank? Any problems?

No leaks at all. New tank arrived yesterday. Should have it in by next week.
