In August of this year I finally ended the speedster build shop days. ~

To West Virginia minus my lift, welder, drill press, rolling tool boxs and all inventory, just two small hand held tool boxes remained in my possession we moved to Elkins, West Virginia to our retirement townhouse which happened to have a 2 car heated garage. .....perfect for our bikes.
A few weeks after we settled in Tom Buchanan who lives a couple of hours from here, called and asked if I would wire and do the interior of a speedster he was considering buying, "Send me a picture when you get it" Tom sends me a few pictures . I call Tom suddenly, uncontrollable speedster addict words roll across my tongue out my pie hole: .... "Why don't you just leave it on the trailer and deliver it to me " " ^#&$! Did I just say that " ? Tom showed up the next day at noon and so it began, ...... Project 44. Confessional: My name is Alan Merklin aka Drclock and I am a Speedsteroholic'

Nice work for a "retired" speedster-a-holic!
Never say never...
Who is surprised?? You are amazing, Alan.
Told ya'. Selling the tools: bad idea.
Who had the under with 6 months?
What Will, Bill, Jack and Stan said...

Me. You can take the boy out of the shop, but you can't take the shop out of the boy. I was without a hobby shop for 18 months, and it nearly killed me.
"Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in again !"
Alan:
Did you really think you were going to sit all winter, drinking coffee and watching someone shovel your walk and driveway?
Nice try, anyway.
P.S. we all loves ya...

X10. Guy goes from driving 60 hrs/week, and building a car every 2 months to sitting in the living room, looking out the window.
This is a way better way to be retired.
Welcome back ! ! ! !
Welcome (back) to the Madness, Alan!
I'm enjoying doing this one, on my own timeline a few hours a day. During the 6 years Connie and I would come to Elkins to visit family and friends there's been a red VS super wide body around town. A few weeks ago Connie mentioned that someday that car will probably come up for sale. That "someday" was the very next day... it had a sitting a For Sale sign in it. Just needs a bit of paint work and a full service. Resistance was futile and that one also now sits in our garage.

Looks familiar.......Like the reason my Rogue sits outside all year long but Pearl is nice and dry inside her garage. Now......If I only had cheap HEAT out there! Of course, it's a little cramped out there right now, as I have my neighbor son's (he's 4 years old) electric ATV sitting in the shop getting some fixing done after he dumped it in the snow!
Welcome back, Alan, to the land of the wrenchers! We all knew you'd be back.
"THIS is the LAST one I'm evah gonna build! I'm DONE!"
Yeah....right. Enjoy the build!
Glad you’re still involved in a hands on way!!
Maybe you can consider the Texas Hill Country as your next retirement spot. We could use some help with our Texas Speedsters!
James, maybe we need to get an Austin gathering as a halfway point between DFW and Houston???
I still think we could have bought an old mobile home steel frame and put it under the doctor's Amish garage. A Discover the USA Tour of "Fix a Tub" could ensue. Map out lines of each state visited could be stuck on the garage door. Of course it only makes sense to head to FL in the winter! I know of 5 local Tubs needing the doctor's touch --- and a Mod-T dune buggy.

I am down for that. Or even a central gathering in Arkansas or something.
Greg.... I am challenging you to have your speedster done for Carlisle ..hell I could build 2 speedsters by then :~) Connie and I will be in Florida 1/15 - 1-26 and that vacation could easily be extended if, you happen to have a rental property available we can turn wrenches in a weeks time line to help you get it done. Imagine the stories :~)
At least you didn't -

It's now or never, Greg. What do you have to lose?

Excuses!
Greg, is it that you really don’t want to be finished? Remember, these are never truly finished. There will always be more to do. Just think of the adulation that you’ll receive when you wheel that beauty into the parking lot. We’re all waiting with bated breath to see it. C’mon, you can do it!!! 👍👍👍👍
A speedster owner who feels that their car is finished is, in true denial ~
Welcome back to the madness, Dr. Clock. We knew you'd come strolling back like nothing ever happened.
I can't find the post I made some months back, when Alan bid us all adieu and closed up shop, sold all his shyt to Ed, etc. etc., wherein I said something like "Riiiight . . ." As in, not gonna happen. So we see the Mad Dr Clock is doing one of the magical things that he does best. Of course he is. Love ya Alan,, RAVE ON!!
Never say never. I'm not the least bit surprised. Welcome back , Doc! Sea u @ Carlisle.
I'm surprised, I'm doing this again.... Thanks Everyone ~

No one else is!! LOL
Ditto on the surprise factor. If you are surprised, you are the only one.
Retired hell....I knew better...just had to prove it !!!! He said he would have me killed if I told anyone!!
Tom is less than truthful. He retired from being a car salesman and we all know they can sell ice to an Eskimo.
Greg, come on man!
