I know it's not a Speedster event, but it definitely promotes car culture. On Saturday, August 5, Galveston Island will turn Stewart Beach into a 50's style drive in theater and we are showing "American Graffiti". Sock hop and pre-event festivities start at 7PM, the movie starts at 9PM sharp. Entry is just $10 per vehicle so bring the whole family.

The last time we did this with "Grease", over 500 cars showed up. We have plenty of room, but get there a bit early for best viewing. Sound will be broadcast on a local FM station so you can tune in on your car stereo. Post here or feel free to email me if you have any questions.

You know, I really miss drive in movies. I remember going with my parents when I was little (Saugus, CA). We took the pickup truck and a bunch of pillows/blankets. Turned the truck backward and watched the movie. My brother and I always fell asleep... When I got older and had my own car, the fun game was to see how many of us could fit in the trunk and get in for free!

Wish there was a drive in around here...

There are no drive-ins near the Houston area (it's usually too hot), so setting one up on the beach is a pretty novel thing. We have a 30'x50' inflatable screen that we set up near the dunes. We then pack the so that cars can line up on it. We'll also have a sock hop, 50's tunes and hula hoop contests for the kids...all in all, a fun night out.

Hey Houstonians, there is a new Drive-in theater that just opened up near Tomball, TX. I know, not that close to Galveston, but I guess they are making a comeback. My ride is coming in 2 weeks and that is one place I would like to go when it gets here. Here is the address... 22422 FM 2920 Hockley Tx 77447. Web addy- theshowboatdrivein.com
