The space, or lack of it, in a Spyder footwell has been discussed a few times here. I generally wear Puma Speedcats, but they’re pretty pricey. When this China-spam popped up a last week I thought WTH, $25? I’ll give them a try.

They just arrived and for $25, I have to say they’re pretty nice. They come in tan and grey, and there’s a low-rise (ankle height) as well.

Like Speedcats, they’re pretty narrow, but I ordered my regular Puma size (46) and they’ll be fine with a little breaking in.

Sometimes I think there's one enormous factory in China where they make all the shoes.

And I mean, like, ALL the shoes.

Every single shoe for every shoe label.

And that there are only about six different kinds of rubbery plastic stuff that they use in different combinations to make all of the shoes.

This factory is probably the size of South Dakota, but with more people. I could see the wing where they make the laces being as big as Rhode Island.

OK, go ahead, laugh. But we don't really have any way to know that this isn't true, right?

And explain why ALL shoes smell exactly the same when they're new, no matter what label they have.

Yeah, explain that!

.

When I became a Deka dealer when I had my motorcycle business, my East Penn rep told me there were only 4 factories that made car batteries, theirs, one in Europe that made Varta/Exide, and two in China that make all the rest. Batteries+ sells Die Hard and Energizer brands that are both made by East Penn.

Of course with EVs coming online Li-Ion batteries are a growth industry.

I believe there used to be three makers. One is Interstate, the other is Johnson Controls which made Die Hard and a BUNCH of others. Maybe someone bought Johnson Controls. The other I can't remember, my memory is foggy, but maybe it was Exide.

And for certain driving shoes are not for walking. I have two pair, one are low-cut which I use in the Spyder and Cayman. The other pair are fire resistant and go along with my suit(and all the other safety gear).

Just a word to the wise, cheap soft shoes with no support can quickly damage the nerves in your feet ..  " Dude's " canvas shoes screwed up the bottom of my feet big time & feel like I have bunched up socks.

So I’m really liking these. But I had a little issue. Three weeks ago I was walking Milo in my TopSiders. His ball went down a small incline and about halfway down, I felt something pop in my right calf and it felt like someone stabbed me with a knife.

It was almost healed last Sunday when we were walking again, this time in the low tops I got from Temu.  Just after I’d stretched my calves out, kind of the same thing happened, at which point I suspected the lack of arch support.

Got these yesterday and I’m giving them a trial run. I hope it helps, I spend most of my summers in TopSiders.

I wear these for driving the Roadster. Cheap, small and lightweight. Not suitable for walking either. I tried to buy more from Amazon but non available. I've worn Sperry Topsiders most of my life and started long ago when sailing down South. There used to be a place in Ft.Lauderdale called the Modern Shoe Company and they'd totally restore a pair of topsiders for $15.

Alan:

I live in Sperry Topsiders year round. Been wearing them since middle school in Southern California. I think I've got about a dozen pairs of various ages, conditions and soles. If you haven't worn the Gold Cups, give them a try.

However, I am diabetic so I have orthotic supports in them now.

Things stay the same but change.

I will check out the  Topsiders...thanks .  I went to a Podiatrist, come to find out low B-12 will cause foot neuropathy, I am on my second B-12 shot and feet are 50 % better.
