Well I'm almost done with my build and it's been quite an adventure. The car is a gift for my wife. I included a few updated pics.

The real reasonI am posting though is I wanted the experts to walk my thru the dropping the top process and how it all stacks in the back? You can skip unhooking the top from windshield and unsnapping the rear but what is the best sequence from there?? And for extra credit where approximately should I put those snaps on the straps that support the top on the firewall? Thank you for your help in advance, ScottIMG_0671IMG_0673IMG_0674IMG_0675

We had a recent thread titled "Winter Projects". In that thread I posted photos of the work I did and one of the other members asked how I folded the top. I posted some pictures of the top as I folded it. The photos are in the reverse order so start with the last picture first, first picture last. The top folds up and everything is tight. I don't use the straps as the top will only go down so far. Scroll down to the post just after the 69Boyz Tootsie Roll video. LOL

You could also use the "Search" function and there may be some other thoughts on how to fold the top. I like my method since nothing hangs down and it makes the tonneau nice and snug as well.

I don't recommend folding the top material against the plastic window or folding the window into the top. The top material is abrasive against the plastic. Best way is to unsnap the the top letting the window hang a bit into the tub, unlatch the header bow allowing the steel top frame to fold down as to bring the top to the tub, then roll the header bow under as you roll it up, this lets the plastic window fall flat against the rear tub and the rolled header fits perfect into the tub.

I remember seeing a GORGEOUS black with red interior Beck 550 Spyder once, that a guy bought "for his wife".  I helped with smoothing out the carbs with a local mechanic and it was perfect.  The wife drove it every day the first week (learning to drive the manual way), then a 3-4 times the next week, then twice the third week and then it sat in the garage a lot.  It was windy, and noisy, and shaky, and smelly when she drove it.  She had to wear a hat to keep her hair nice (she was a cheerleader-type realtor and needed to meet clients) and all that.  Last I heard, it had been sitting for a few years (it never showed up on here or ebay or their local car club events).  Their house was on the Intra-coastal waterway down south, so by now it must be pitting and rusting to death.

Scott - I took a few pics to demonstrate how I stow my convertible top. This process will keep the rear window from getting scratched and deformed (curled up or crumpled with creases) and minimize the wrinkles (and possibility of tears in the material) when you pull the top up. I install my full tonneau so when I park my park whenever I'm out cruising, I can close up the tonneau and keep prying eyes off the interior.

Click on the first pic to enlarge, then you can scroll through the rest. Hope you find this helpful.
