this bug would BLOW the doors off my speedster which im told has a 1600 in it.

now... my ultimate goal is to hit high 11's low 12's in the 1/4 mile. (my only real gauge that everybody can understand)
What Ireally want is power to make some great times at the local road course. (NOT autocross - a full road course).

Ican get a 1776 longblock for 995.
do i need to go larger? to hit the power i want...
also.. i want torque and acceleration that is rival/beats a new vette... 0-60 in 4-5 seconds... what do I want... tell me.

Thanks guys... o, and im still workin the idea of GM crossfire EFI on this thing :)

And some Kahunas if you do it in a Speedster Replica! That. would be a wild azzed ride in 11+ sec ETs. I've done it in Detroit Iron... but something that light with that much power? Lord.

I'm not knockin it.... just wouldn't ride in it with that much throttle on. I liked Dave's Q to Pat.... how about a streetable 1776 Turbo'd..
so my cmc weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 1500 - 1700 lbs with driver (me:185lbs) right?

as im looking around these sights.. even A.J's low buck barely hit high 11's with is combo... how much does a bug weigh???!!

also, do i turbo my 1600 or will it kill it right away? again, i can get a 1776 long block for same price as a 1600 longblock. which is better to turbo. also, i never saw prices for the low buck turbo setup.. wouldnt the turbo distort or melt our decklids?

Jim, Im 23, invinsible remember :) - actually I would rarely pull the car over the limits of safe... i compare it to riding a sport bike.. I COULD kill myself very easily and quickly... if I forget to respect the power.

Ok, next subject... fiddled with my little solex again today... it's like the car doesnt want to sit still, it runs GREAT when driving, but if i cruise to stop it doesnt want to idle... wants to bog and die instead. If i start it up, it idles fine, drive it a bit and slow to a stop. it dies. - I need to go EFI, i cant stand carburators. - however the best vw guy i have here in town doesnt work on turbos, or efi. he is as old school as it gets. Im sure he knows his stuff, but i think he's about over the old school and into the dinosaur era. arg!

is it time to call raby again?
Nic,

Are you SURE you want a speedster? A 12 second car is not like a 12 second bike. Going that fast on a bike takes nothing but a few thousand dollars, an open stretch of road, and a false sense of indestructability. "Back in the day.." when I was just out of high school driving late 60s- middle 70s Detroit "muscle" cars not good for anything other than a straight line, a car that could get into the 13s was pretty hot. Going (a lot) faster in an air-cooled, four cylinder VW powered speedster is not going to be a "low budget" proposition. George is right about the h/p numbers you would need, and your not going to get it in a 1600, 1776, or anything else you are considering, unless you are considering a $7000 engine and $3000 transaxle. When you are done, you'll have a monster engine/ trans combo on a shortened VW pan, complete with flexible framehorns and mid-pan flex in the door area. I'm completely with Jim on this one- you first, I'll be over here watching... Getting the car to hook up, w/o twisting in half is no small matter. Stopping it after you do is another thing altogether. George spent what it takes to be the 900 lb gorilla (for now) on the block, and I'm guessing his pockets (and commitment) are deeper that yours for this project. My advise- build a nice car, with a nice relaible engine. Be happy with it. You wanna race? Take the $10K+ you saved and buy a used ZX10 for $3K and smoke those $50K german sedans and ricer cars. Invest the rest, give it to a charity, do something other than try to make your car into something it was never meant to be...

Let the flames begin.
Thanks guys...

I've got, need 200hp, turbo, check you sac for large balls, good luck, have fun, dont kill yourself, you can't afford it. :smiles: ok, i give up LOL (not really).

Guess I'll just have to go start buying/building instead finding out first what I need. You guys DO think it can be done right? :)
