I lived in Seattle for 35 years. I knew the folks at Park Place pretty well. I tried several times to buy a Ferrari from them. They simply would not sell the car for a fair price when the knew a sucker would walk through the door later. The entire car business in Bellevue was built on the back of MSFT. Jimmy Barrier opened the first MB Dealer in Bellevue in 1983. Today he has almost every high end dealership there. MB, Audi, Porsche, Jaguar, Volvo, and Rolls Royce. I bought a Porsche and a Jag from Barrier in the 80's. In the early days MSFT payed most of the employees with options as a major part of the compensation package. Suddenly you have thousands of young people with $ coming out of their ears. Park Place started in the mid 80's. Suddenly there are customers with lot's of dough and they simply did not understand anything except it is beautiful, I want it, and I have cash. I know many people that simply caught the wave and got very rich selling stuff to MSFT and their employees. I used to be asked what the impact of MSFT was on the local community and my response was  just drive around the area you will see lots of < 5's driving really expensive cars. OK if any women are reading this I apologize now, it is just a fact.

Hi guys, thanks for all the constructive comments and I am not in the least surprised by the comments on the price. It has been a pleasure getting to know some of you and I'm just sorry circumstances haven't allowed me to more fully engage with the group.

Around the time I met some of you a couple of years back at the SOC gathering (I had a fantastic time by the way), I became the victim of a corporate restructure and with a few trusted colleagues, invested my life savings/401K/credit line etc in starting up a new business. Thankfully things have gone well, although going from the support available in a 36,000 person business to a California start up has been a roller coaster ride. Suffice to say that I have not had much play time since the business got off the ground and the speedster makes me feel guilty every time I see it, as it only gets started up and driven round the block occasionally to keep all the moving parts working and well oiled. My new business now has me relocating to Boulder, CO, so with a heavy heart I decided as part of the move to part with the Speedie.

A word on the pricing, while it wouldn't be fair for me to reveal the details of the SS deal, the car is on consignment (so it is stored if it doesn't sell before I move) and SS do take a heft chunk out of the sale price. The logic is start high and reduce the price over time if there are no takers. SS sells cars all around the world, so for the first month of so, I was happy to take their advice to throw the hook out there to see if there are any bites. The car is a fairly unique color and spec combo so you never know where it could get shipped off to at the asking price. That said, I will be more that happy to discuss reasonable offers with SOC members. The car has never given me a moment's trouble and my local aircooled mechanic (Ken@ Precision Peoples garage in Berkeley) has kept the carbs tuned and changed the oil every 1000 miles, ironically with the case of Brad Penn oil I won at the SOC raffle!!

No offense taken Jim, I'm sure Brian is much more fun than me in real life!!

It was a pleasure getting to know you Chris. I wondered what happened to you last year. You really missed some shenanigans. I really liked the color. I would not have picked it myself because I'm not that creative, or I'm too conservative, but after I saw it I thought to myself, "That's bada$$!".

Good luck with the new business venture, you deserve success.

Robert, thank you for your kind words, you were one of the reasons my first SOC west coast gathering left me with such a good impression about the group.  I truely believe speedster ownership is all about timing. My life is too volatile to make the most of owning and being part of such a great and welcoming group of people!

If the paint's not all that old and they had the original formula (or better yet, some left over) it wouldn't be that hard to do. Do the glass work, some filling and priming, and once it's nice and dry, a little buff, and voila!                                                                              (please note, all you 'muriken's, how that french word is spelled. I'ts not "whala", or any variation there of. Ok, French class is over.)

@Chris J this looks like your car with the bumpers on -- http://www.autoatlanta.com/car...listing.php?id=42835

If it is, how did they patch the bumper holes and match the paint so well?  Can anyone explain how this is done?  I saw no note of painting or patching when I saw the car.

I don't think that's Chris' car with bumpers on it. There are only 544 miles on the odometer and Chris bought his used and he put that many on just driving it to SLO in 2015. Chris' car also had yellow driving lights and this one has clear.

Robert I meant that looked like the original ad for Chris's car. It's still up. I believe he bought it with those miles from Washington and that's where the ad says it was located.
