I just received a DTM Type 1 fan shroud and noticed that it does not have outlets to connect with my heater boxes to blow heat (such that it is) to warm my shins while driving. Do I need to sacrifice this creature comfort for better cooling of the engine? Or, am I missing something?
John,

All of the shrouds we use are without fresh air, and we run a seperate fan directly to the heater boxes. The fan has two outlets, one to each heater box. Switch on the dash (or anywhere for that matter) and there you have it... It works well, and you don't have to be moving to get the heat blowing! Let me know if you need more details, help, etc...

We have a pair of small molds, and make them in house. They could be finished nicer, but I didn't see the point since they aren't really visable once the engine is in. (You can see the cloth pattern, as mentioned above)
We mount them on the rear "shelf" area in our engine compartment, but I don't believe that all makes have this same space in the rear. I'm sure the guys on this forum could come up with a clever location to mount them.
I am (literally) walking out the door for Colorado, but will be back on Monday. If anyone wants a fan, let me know. $24 shipped to the lower 48.

Looks homemade to me - you can see the fiberglass cloth strands. The Porsche 914 and VW Type 2(Bus) and probably the 411/412 used a fan with 2 outlets to push heat thru exchangers when you weren't moving. You see them on ebay for $15-50. Suspect you could use any enclosed fan and add a PVC Y connector to it to pump air thru both heat exchangers. Many don't use heat exchanger at all (reduces both weight and engine heat) -- there the answer is a BN2/BN4 VW gas heater. Then you can even pre-warm the car interior --- and you don't arrive smelling like oil fumes.
