MG TD replica here - had some problems at Carlisle and it turned out I had loose heads and had to do a slight rebuild.

Anyway - I have a 1641 with dual Kadrons that have run perfectly w/ no adjustments for over 7 years. I put everything back together and hit the road. It seems to run perfectly in the driveway but under way w/ some acceleration it bogs down badly. I followed the AJ Sims instructions to tune but have not been able to get in back to normal.

Some facts - it has a vacuum advance dizy with electronic points. I have already replaced  the distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs , wires, tried it with another coil, cleaned out the carb filters, cleaned the jets, cleaned out the carb bowels, checked the inline fuel filters, added dry gas to the tank, replaced the needle valves on each and more...

I have also attempted to adjust the Accelerator pump.

After all this I have a couple of things I have noticed - the passenger side carb seems to dump fuel into the throat in squirts from the central tube as well as the normal brass squirt tube - the other side does not seem to do this - in addition I noticed the intake manifold below the carb is much colder then the drivers side ( because of the extra fuel? ).

The fuel dumping did abate a bit when I screwed out the accelerator adjustment nut but did not stop completely.

I think I am back to the carbs being the problem but looking for some expert help in diagnosing my problem.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Dale

I am using a mechanical pump ( and just installed a new one to make sure ) so I would think that would not be an issue. I do know that ethanol will affect the diaphragm ( had to replace one before ) so replaced it thinking that might solve the issue. I now think it might be one of my accelerator pump diaphragm.

Thanks

As James mentioned, fuel pressure needs to be low with kads, and without measuring (even with a new pump) you have no idea what yours is as new pumps are all over the place for pressure.

Since you have a mechanical pump, regulating the pressure is easy. Buy a stack of ten fuel pump gaskets. I had to use 7, yes, 7, on a dual port 1835 dual Solex install I did. It was on a sandrail. You need to use a gauge to test for proper pressure. Guessing or assuming just doesn't work. Any more than 1.5 lbs. is too much and will overwhelm the float valve.

Schu, it seems your driver's side carb is not delivering any fuel. Intake leak? Float setting? Passages clogged? Really bad sync?

Danny

I have had three different fuel pumps on that engine without any fuel delivery problems in the past but I will check it out.

Both carbs do pump fuel through the brass squirt tube but the passenger side also pushes fuel out of the central horizontal tube ( for a lack of a better term ) which has convinced me that the accelerator pump diaphragm has problems.

We will see - keep them coming

In any case I will order rebuild kits
