What about it was funny?
Yeah, i don't what i was thinking, funniest isn't even a word. I was thinking about how much fun i was having, and lost track of my thinking.
How about the best and most fun little car i have owned and driven.

I'm sorry funniest is a word, but abviously doesn't apply to my post, boy i'm really started to screw this up, Thanks for pointing that out to me Ron.
it only gets worst i meant to say, STARTING to screw this up. Boy i'm going to bed !

With that said-- who is going to send me flower as a reward for all of the entertainment I've provided?

I lied i didn't go to bed, i woke up, not to send you a flower, but to give you one. where do you want it.

There are no flower emoticons, so the thumbs up will have to do, Annaliese. Hang in there. It will get better. I had a few sorting issues myself at first. That was 6 years and 35k miles ago.
i'm sure everything will end up lovely. =)
Does anyone have a type 1 air cooled engine that doesn't leak?
My previous 2110 only leaked a few drops here and there over a couple of days. My present piece of crap 2276 leaks at the front (not sure of the source) and the back.
Ron: Mine seems not to leak, which is a pleasant surprise, after all the British sports cars I have owned.
My car has a type 1 and does not leak oil, or burn oil. At least, not at this point. I picked it up in mid-summer and ran it in So- Cal temperatures, not a drop of oil loss. it's a beautiful day out there, time to go.
Bob, does your engine have an aluminum case? Mine does, and I'm wondering if that's part of the problem.
The original engine builder recommended going with an aluminum case. I had wanted to go with a mag case, but thinking he knew best, I went with aluminum. I kind of wish I hadn't.
I'm not sure. It's a CB Performance 2332 c.c., so whatever that would have.
I had always "thought" that aluminum was much preferred over magnesium but can't prove that.
I just Googled "aluminum vs magnesium cases in VW engines" and got a long thread from The Samba with more info than I have time to read.
I believe that all Porsche 914 cases as well as VW Bug Type IVs were aluminum.
I believe CB uses aluminum cases. If yours doesn't leak there's hope for mine.
I have a serious leak at the flywheel end, which ruined my clutch.

It has been the subject of much debate....
Ever see an old magnesium case thrown in a waning bomb fire and then water used to put it out?

Surprisingly, my old mag engine case didn't catch fire.
Ron- How'd you put it out?
I didn't. The fire department did.

Does this post hold the record for thread drift? Or is that a dumb question?
Did anyone see that outer space jump to earth yesterday?
Also, what's the shelf life for oil in plastic containers?
I'm in Roswell where the jump started from and watched the entire show from start to finish. It was pretty amazing to see him land on his feet after jumping from 24 miles up and breaking the sound barrier. A UFO crashed here in 1947, the Enola Gay B-29 was stationed here for a period of time and now a man from Austria drops from space keeping this small town somewhat on the map. This was his 3rd jump here and each one was nothing short of incredible.
Annaliese, since your car is in the shop, did you get a chance to see the man fall to earth in New Mexico? And, btw, did you pick up some oil over the weekend?
i like sandwiches.
BTW-- roland is putting a new engine in my car. the person who built the other engine has apparently been fired. he is going to fix everything up and put some miles on the car for me. he had a good talk with my father today.
Good For You !
NICE!!!

Hey Bob, if the guy jumped to earth in a big plastic container I wonder what his shelf life would be.....
Annaliese, I'm glad you're finally on the road to getting the car you ordered. If it makes you feel any better, my $8000+ engine was pulled at 1500 miles for a broken piston ring, and at 3000 miles I took it out for an overheating problem. So, I understand what you're going through. A year from now this experience will be a distant memory.
Annaliese: Good deal. Hope the second time's the charm, engine-wise. You getting dual carbs this time?
Everyone else: Here's that space-balloon jump reenacted with Legos.
I know, I know. You're welcome.
Ed, I'm starting to worry about you....
no dual carbs. i forget the exact reasoning as my dad explained it to me but basically the car will be much easier to tune and maintain with the single carb. kirk says that roland has put a nicer german carb on the car.
i also sent kirk an email today asking him if he wants to remove the AC. we will see. =)

Malarkey on dual carbs making it harder to tune. Unless you go with Webers - the right size and jetted carbs make tuning pretty much once. Dual carbs give you a quick 10-12 hp for the same gas consumption.

I agree with you Wolfgang, Malarkey , regarding the reason for not putting the dual carbs on.
I think it's because the added cost, he's only going to give her what they originally agreed on.
Not unless there's more $ to contribute, then anything is possible.
kirk says that the single carb was never a cost cutting method. he says the german carb cost more than dual weber carbs.
the single carb is on recommendation of roland. kirk is not a mechanic or a person who seems to be particularly mechanically inclined otherwise he might have thoroughly explained to me to repercussions of the AC system. i don't think he really knew the car would idle so poorly with AC. blahblahblah
anyway, what'd you all have for dinner tonight?
I agree...Malarkey....
I'm currently nursing a bad cold, so I had a large bowl of chicken soup...I'm sitting here
sweating like a pig.......oink, oink
