I am in the process of making some changes in the motor department. Although 64 horsepower is more than adequate with the 1915cc I have decided to go bigger.
The new setup is a CB Performance 2110cc, 145 hp on the motor dyno. The transmission was custom built by Rancho with taller gears more suited to the lightweight Speedster.

Thursday the 12th the motor came out and then with longer lower studs went back in. Most of the day I plumbed the SS braided lines and made all the connections. Friday filled with fluids we fired her up, sounded great, test drive it was needing adjusting. We did remove one carb to clear the frame rails.
Monday George did some Weber magic and it was close so I drove it home. This morning I drove a nice easy 60 mile break in cruise and will continue for the next few weeks before I can really lean on it.

George hates the new transmission, I love it! He liked jumping off the line and getting a big punch in 2nd. I much rather like shifting into 2nd at 25mph and 3rd at 40mph @4000rpm, than that urgent 2nd gear at 15mph.

During break-in the motor needs to stay under 5000rpm. No issue there, my stock motor didn't have any power after 3500rpm. The sound and the power of this new motor is addicting, especially powering out of corners. The carbs still need something, but so far its like night and day!!!
Morton, I asked Pat to build it like it was for his own car. He added Weber jet doctors and the new CB distributor. I requested the chrome alt. and the silver powder coating.

Update:

There was a slight roughness between 3 and 4000RPM. We switched the 145 main jets for 150s'. Now it is much better, but now coughs above 4000RPM I think because its not getting enough fuel.

So far I am really happy with all the new power!!
400 mile update.
So far I am pleased with the new motor trans combo. With the taller gears and added RPM range the Speedster is more comfortable to drive around town. The taller 4th gear has the motor turning 2800 RPM at 70MPH.
Tuesday the UPS guy brought 3 sets of jets, 150, 155 and 160s'. George suggested the 160s' first. Yesterday was a hot 106 when I buzzed up the 110 freeway to Starbucks with a couple of bursts up to 90MPH. Runs great and stays just above 180 oil temp. with the fan on. I am still having a slight fuel starvation at close to 5000 RPM in third gear just over 65 mph. I shift into forth and can pull away so I don't think the float bowls are empty. Tomorrow George will adjust the valves and check the plugs. From there I may go down a jet size. If everything checks out good tomorrow I will drive to Lake Elsinore for the weekend.

Just for comparison sake,, Bill,
My 1600cc and stock tranny are barely 60mph at 3000 rpm !! What a world of difference. Question,,, how are you liking your 4th gear overtaking acceleration,, ie: does it pull "somewhat strongly", "very strongly", or "goes like ape sheet" For comfortable high speed cruising at say 70mph, you would want to be able to rely on a strong passing capability, say 70 to 85 without having to drop it down to third.
congrat's
Alan
The linkage is from CSP, made in Germany. It's stainless steel and will look great after it gets polished.

Friday George looked at a spark plug and asked me to install the 155 main jets before my long drive. Valves were adjusted and I drove to Lake Elsinore (80miles) in 100 degree heat. The temp stayed at 190 to 200 when I stopped for gas. Speaking of gas, the old motor got 32 on the highway the new one 17-18 MPG. I guess my next modification will be a larger gas tank!

Alan, pulls somewhat strongly on the highway from 3k and gets stronger as the revs build. There is still a choking issue in 3rd gear close to 5K. George will have to take it for drive to see what his diagnosis is.

700 miles so far and I love all the extra horsepower.
Lane (and Bill):

Stainless Steel is almost as hard as Chrome plating (which is really hard). I hand-made mounting brackets for my driving lights from 3/16" stainless flat sheet and it took a LOT of 'gnads' to get them polished. I finally used 800, 1600, then 2000 grit wet paper, and then polished them with a small wheel in my drill and "stainless steel polish" from a local autobody supplier. THAT took about 30 minutes each and I was wiped when they were done (lots of applied pressure, there!)

They can be polished, it'll just take a lot of work AND a power buffer of some sort.

There is a polishing shop across the street from Georges that does door hardware. They polished the little stainless bracket for my 3rd brake light. Looks just like chrome now.
I took the bell crank to them before the motor went in, but at the time I wasnt sure how to take it apart and they didnt want to screw up the plastic cap. We had to install the extra CSP bell crank spring, now I can take it apart to be polished.
