the ratchet on my e-brake stopped working yesterday. i had a few minutes to try to take a look at it: the piece with the button on it can now slide all the way out. i try to manually maneuver the half moon shaped cog under the lever to get it to stick, but i just does not. i can pull the lever up and nothing catches.

any advice on what could be happening?

You just "hyper-extended" the e-brake handle. The cables stretch a bit as they're used and the slack needs to be taken up by tightening the nut(s) on the threaded ends at the base of the handle mechanism.

All you have to do is pull the cross bar with the cables attached to it off of the locator pin at the rear of the handle. Remove one of the clips from the handle pivot pin and push that out. Pull the e-brack handle assembly out of it's bracket and re-set the ratchet/push rod/etc. in it's correct position in relation to the various pieces (you'll see what I mean, once it's apart), then re-assemble and tighten the cables.

This happens all the time, you just need to pay attention to the 'feel' of the e-brake. As it sets in higher and higher positions, you just take up the slack in the threads. No big deal at all.

Luck!

You fixed it or got it fixed BY someone? You'd BETTER have fixed it yourself . . .

HEY where were you on Saturday? You missed a pretty fun time and me and Gordon and BB all poking the cars, and ice cream and stuff. Tom Morgan was even there, he's got an "under construction" Speedster that he won't sell me . . .
