Race cars are categorized by engine displacement. Depending on the type of competition/organization, etc, a car can have certain alphabetic & numeric classifications.
E Production is what a lot of speedsters/roadsters ran in SCCA events. Most events still have an E-class if I'm not mistakin'...I haven't run in an event in nearly twenty years (scratch, stretch and make geezerly noises)
I would think most racing publications or books with an eye towards competition can provide more insight as well as the non-Porsche competitors.
