Race cars are categorized by engine displacement. Depending on the type of competition/organization, etc, a car can have certain alphabetic & numeric classifications.
E Production is what a lot of speedsters/roadsters ran in SCCA events. Most events still have an E-class if I'm not mistakin'...I haven't run in an event in nearly twenty years (scratch, stretch and make geezerly noises)
I would think most racing publications or books with an eye towards competition can provide more insight as well as the non-Porsche competitors.

E-production was the 1,500cc to 2,000cc SCCA racing class; Porsche 1600s, Triumph TR2s, Austin-Healey 100 fours, etc.
Hey thanks guys. I had one of those stop light conversations with this old geezer in a new Boxster (don't think it was you Paul)(kidding),saying he used to chase a single exhaust piped speedster around and was mine E-production? I said, huh? The light changed as did our attention.
