anyone know where I might get an early style beetle shifter, thin style with somewhat of a curve, I think this is the early style, anyway I have a trigger pull style for lack of a better way to describe it, and the shaft part is thick, if anyone wants it make me an offer, but i really want to know where I can find a thinner one even if it's not curved, thanks

Jane,

Most of us have removed the original shifter assembly due to the poor feeling they offered - "Longer throw, Vagness in Gear Selection etc."

The original shifters are probably availiable at most any VW Shop in the used parts bin or as myself in the "Removed Parts Bin."

If you still wish this type of shifter; they offer an attachmant referred to as a "Slick Shift" that is installed below the stock shifter assemble and decreased the "Throw/Distance" between each gear selected. It doesn't effect the "Push Down" Reverse selection though.

Jane; you are probably referring to the up to '64 style and you can get that in any VW shop (try CIP). Just make sure you get the ivory knob with it for a truer to the original look; that's what came in my car and I'm not changing it. I like it fine since I'm not drag racing; as long as the shift rod bushing (a $7.00 part) is in good shape you should be fine.
I checked the samba today and there are several shifters. I had oodles of vw's over the years and I love the thinnest and slightly bent shifter, and yes the 7mm ivory shifter knob would be a must. I should probably get a new shifter busing kit as well and a new shifter coupler. If anyone is interested in my old one let me know and I'll post pics, its the trigger pull type.
Karl; I really liked the pictures too; I like that Vanilla color (as Jane's). The gauge conversion looks great. The engine in my car (1915 cc) will soon be equipped with some of the parts you have in yours: dual Dells, CB hex linkage, air cleaners and manifolds, 1.25 rockers, etc. I was looking at your muffler and it looks like the Tri-Mil I'll be installing. Is that what you have or is it something else?
Ricardo, thanks for looking, the system is custom to some degree, larger tailpipes to look Carrera but I find it to noisey so I,m taking a 356 stock system and converting to work with the vw heads so stay tuned. I,m currently doing a ring and valve job on a 62 356 cabby and using the muffler as a template. One of my favorite systems was the old 4 tip ANSA system made about 15 years ago, sweet sound and just the right backpressure, Take care and keep on tubbing, K
