Would sell without the motor for $16,500 if interested in using your own motor
Not a bad looking car.

three months ago Stroud would've been all over this one.
Interesting that you guys say this. I do like the older IM's and this one was built in March '78 with serial number 161 and mine was built in May '78 serial number 223.
This ride is just priced too high as is. You can get driveable Speedsters in the early $20's all the time with basic stuff. There seems to be a very limited market for fixer uppers and I'd bet Al Merklin would agree that this might be an $11k-$13K car as is.
Paint, seats, new engine, a few bits and pieces and you'er up to $20 K quickly with this one. Throw in a better engine, nice wheels, beefier tranny, exhaust and where are we ?
Dave your right the price of revamping, just in parts and paint can climb quite quickly even if your doing the work. Also, IM's I think post 1984 have a square tube frame, which I think would make for a stronger and more rigid ride...

1984 seems to be a transition year. Mine is an 84 and is pan based.
I did not mean to suggest Stroud would pay the asking price. Sorry if anyone was confused.
Looks to me like it comes complete. The seats are out but go with the car. The engine probably not worth the $2,000 premium. The claims of "IMs are hella expensive" in the ad easily brushed aside by the knowledgeable bidder. Right at $12k or so that's a nice base.
Not for me, of course. $12k to me is like Malaysian princeling money; there is a reason you don't see me partying at the Pink Elephant with Paris Hilton and Kanye. But to a Speedster shopper...yeah maybe.
Now $15K without motor
I've partied with Paris and I can tell you she isn't as much fun as she used to be now that she's back to wearing underwear.
I was at a party in Hollywood and met Paris. Very nice gal in person, but she did scratch me pretty good with her ankle bracelet. That scar on my neck is still visible!

Was this a threesome?
